How filthy is your hole? When’s the last time you cleaned it?

Continuing on with the front end rebuild on my 2005 QC.
I noticed this rubber & coil spring mount was filled to the brim with gravel & rocks. I got the garden hose out and started to wash the “cup” out but water just went over the sides.
Feeling around looking to find where the drain hole should be, and I see a bolt head sticking out the hole. Since there was still a lot of rocks in the cup I blasted it until most of the rocks were out. God knows why it appeared that someone was 4-wheeling, but that is what it looked like.
Come to find out there was two bolts, and 2 nuts also. I can just imagine the guy before me putting some part in, dropping the different bolts and nuts (probably at different times, and searching the garage floor not finding them. Well guess what, they went into the cup.
So when was the last time you guys inspected you cup to see if the drain hole is open and not blocked?
Always keep your hole clean and tidy!

I'm still laughing! We're getting wire an experience with your front end rebuild that's for sure! I wouldn't doubt someone took it off-road - but I'm sure that won't be hiring any more if that was the case.

Can these areas be inspected easily for someone who is Truck shopping or ??? Sorry I've never done a front end before hahahaha!

Time for SUPER SUPER and a pressure washer or scrub brush , 00 steel wool or copper .. .. some touch up paint and GX-3 plastic restorer .. maybe a bottle d belly button jelly for that rust …

Appears someone was driving dow some wet gravel road all the time or driving in construction sites .. Any idea where the truck was before you purchased it ?

I bought it for scrap. The title is branded. I wanted to have a donor parts truck, and deciding to repair it instead. At some point in time someone truly loved that truck to pay the expense to lowering it. It also has a nice sound system, which I don’t want either and want it back to original.

What sucks too is the guy seems like he wanted to hot rod it because there is basically “Cherry-bombs” muffler on it, and it’s loud! Sad thing is, you can’t really buy low cost cats or mufflers due to state law (Colorado). We are one of 4 states that is required to follow California law, which almost doubles the cost. This is why most people in my state go on “vacations” to get these items in a different state.

Wifey - all you need to do is crank you wheels one way, then the other way. You can see the cups behind the rear of the front tire. Even though it’s not in the engine compartment, but just imagine where the rear of the engine would be, and look underneath where that imaginary invisible line would be.

Nice to know for those on the look for one since prior owners may not think to clean that stuff out if they did do a little dirt tracking or off roading - they slap on the lipstick and waa laaa!

Glad you bought it with that intention so anything you may run into won't be to big a bummer. Seems your having fairly good luck on it so far

My guess is flooding?

Don’t knock the cherry bomb type mufflers ,, I have 36 inch ones on my truck and the truck sounds great .. no drone at all in the cab .. the rest of the exhaust is stock .
Seems it time to move out of the commie states and come to real America lol

If not wrecked ,, then you may be right it was in a flood possible stolen .. who knows .. can you look up it’s vin and history , car fax

Believe it or not, Hail damage.
I appears to me the tow truck driver didn’t know how to tow the truck because the front end grill & bumper were in the bed of the truck.
The other thing is the wheel wells are both damaged. By looking at them you can see tire tread scuffs and both have holes in them. Luckily that part is a common part number on Dodge trucks. I got another two for $10 each.

I appears to me the tow truck driver didn’t know how to tow the truck because the front end grill & bumper were in the bed of the truck.
The other thing is the wheel wells are both damaged. By looking at them you can see tire tread scuffs and both have holes in them. Luckily that part is a common part number on Dodge trucks. I got another two for $10 each.

From my understanding removing the front bumper cover to tow is the only way to avoid damage towing ..
It appears also that the inner fender wells damage from bottoming out , incorrect lowering , driving on dirty ass bumpy roads among other messed up reasons .. the best wat yo keep the holes clean is give it a high pressure shower and use a protectant to limit reccurance like what the pics show ..

Hmmmm I'm thinking that's correct!! Not sure about the grill in the bed unless the lower grill fell out - and with the lowered front it would be especially necessary

Maybe after the hail damage the old owner decided to do a road rally with it! Knowing insurance was going to pay off anyways.

That's a crusty underneath that's for sure! But it can be cleaned up and I think 2005's going to get er done!

You have a good project truck there! Is the body pretty messed up from the hail??
