How heavy is the stock torque converter?

80-90lbs, is what I think, I also talked to Suncoast and they told me that the converter for the top line unit they build is 80lbs, lighter converter makes sense, but then you gotta figure out the rev limit thing, look at Mike's 40lbs converter, he has to run a taller tire to avoid this, I am gonna upgrade my trans soon, and still up in the air about converter, I don't really go to the track so I need something for regular street use, might stick with the stock verter and just do the trans, don't need higher stall for the street, my $.02

the real auto trany soluton for these trucks is a turbo-400 with a gearvendors overdrive on it. then you get essentailly an 8 speed for the road, and a tranny that can handle the rpms of a gas engine, and it runs a normal 47lb convertor.
no matter what you do to th stock dodge tranny, its ill-equiped to handle 800hp plus, and the rpms, and extended line presure a gas engine is going to impose on it. unfortunaltly this tranny is all that DC had in its arsenal.
we are currently working on a turbo400 swap for our drag race srt10 ram. we hope to have a drop in kit by this late fall.

np. we can just do so much more with the turbo400, and the support for it is overwhelming in terms of parts, support, racing setups, and history behind it.

Boomer please keep us updated on the drop-in kit, I for one am starting to get tranny problems, and would much rather go with a turbo 400, when you get the kits done maybe work up a package for a trans & mount kit, say you outsource a good builder you know, who could build a srt10 specific tranny, with all the right gear ratios, line pressures, and then have things like mounts, yokes, and flexplates available for us, if you need a guniea pig for a prototype street application, I would be willing to install your conversion kit in my truck whenever you have a complete kit:idea:

sorry..not a drinker..how much does a keg and a half weigh?

np, i will prob post this soon, i have a feeling i will end up putting one in Womsterrs truck. the cool thing about the turbo 400 is there is NO computer to run it!!!! purley mechanical, which makes it cheaper and mucho easier to mod, and build her tough. i am SO glad i kept the trany out of one of my old shop trucks!
the turbo400 with a gear vendor unit will get WAYWAY better gas mileage than the stock tranny, and be a more durable user friendly unit as well!

...Thank you sir.....My builder figures the tranny is good to 1000 hp......will see soon enough....:D .....

I am more worried about the Drive Shaft and the Dana....

Me too....I think the rearend is toast real soon on both of ours.....i think the DS will hold up since we cant DROP the clutch like the stick boys....Patrick was dumping his clutch from 6k rpms......now there is some pressure on that DS!
