How low Can it go?

Ok so heres the deal i really want to powdercoat my 22's black but the only way to pull it off.. is to make this bitch overly low.. currently i'm running up front the stock coils with one wrap cut off of them " I can cut another off so thats not biggie" i'm more worried about the rear end... how low can you go before you need to shorten your driveshaft? currently i'm running stinkers 2.5 drop blocks and thats it.. i want to loose the over load spring and the home made slapper bar" i think they are made into the same" anyway how low can i go before i start shoving my drive shaft into the tranny?
 
order the kit from stinker and lower that thing properly...;)

not low enough according to stinker my truck sits as low as his kits do now!:D i want it lower!
 
Here's mine with a 3-1/2'' block and 1 leaf removed;) I had to notch the frame to give a little extra clearance for BIG bumps:D You can get an idea of how low it is from the last picture.

I would think the opposite would happen, unless my geometry's off. Essentially, you're creating a right triangle, with the small side being however much more you lower the truck, the base being the length of the driveshaft now, and the hypotenuse being the length of the driveshaft again (but now at a different angle, because the truck has been lowered more). Because the hypotenuse must be longer than either of the other two sides in a right triangle, you're driveshaft would actually be slightly too short, right (pulling away from rather than pushing in to the tranny)? Real life, I bet it doesn't matter.

Your thinking is off. Move the rear diff up you push the shaft in towards the trans. Raise the truck on a lift and let the rear diff droop & you pull the shaft out of the trans.
The rear diff doesnt move vertically in a single plane it will travel in a arc. The forward spring mount is fixed. The rear is on a double pivot(the shackle)

thanks for all the great post guys! and yes i cut my front springs... if done correctly it's not bad on them.. granted i think it could be a little lower! haha

lol it's kind of a weird thing but o well .... I built suspension for 2 years in austin.. i just really do not want to cut this truck up but how ever i do have an idea about coil overs for the front of it! just got to get money to buy them!:rock:
 
How much does lowering the vehicle affect the ride quality? I mean, these trucks already have pretty stiff suspension.
 
Mines dropped alot, not sure exactly how much, but it has blocks under the rear and QA1 race shocks, still rides really nice, unless i hit a bad enough bump :eek:
 
the front I dont reccomend no more than 1.75, which as cody states on a large bump you still may hit the inner fender, that is about an inch or so off the tire to the lip of the fendor, anything lower and you need some modifications

on the rear a three inch is about as far as you can go , even at that you may see the driveshaft bottom in the tranny, especially under acceleration.
and to much more than that and you will def as fatjack says have to c notch the frame, but at that level you start comprimising the ride quality

besides, its a sports truck that should have a certain stance, and handle like a sports car with the power of a beast,
not look like a hoopty mazda riding on the bumpstops with a teeny bopper driving it
