I just changed my oil and filter. Drained the old oil, and removed old filter. Used a Fram oil filter that was same as stock size, filled it with RP before I installed it, then I added my normal 8 qts of oil, it did not register? I then added the extra 1/2 qt. to make a total of 9 qts. I checked the oil level at the stick, it looked good. Started the motor up, pressure was good. I then let the truck sit for about 5 minutes, checked the level again at the stick, and it just barely shows, It looks like it is showing almost a qt. low?! Is this normal? I thought the 2006 SRT took 8.5 qts of oil on average. Does anybody have thoughts or advice on this.?

It took 10qts when I changed to Stinker's oil lines and changed my oil. 05 QC

Just changed to RP yesterday...took 10 qts (as usual) to put it right on the full mark...2006 models require 10qts regardless of the brand oil..

2004 = 8.75 qts.
2005 = 8.75 qts.
2006 = 10.0 qts.

(That's from memory, bietches. Not a manual.)

I did a DIY article on another site regarding oil changes for the Viper engines:

Pretty painless, but kinda messy. :D

Mike- you're gonna need 10 more quarts. Why? Because you DON'T want to use that Fram filter on a Viper engine.
Esp. one all badded out like yours.
Get the 'Viper Badged" one from your local 5-star dealer (recommended for the 2006 engines). P/N 5037836AA.
Another filter option is the Napa Gold oil filter. It's made by Wix and is superior to anything Fram puts out.

Kevan, Thanks for that info. By the way, your brake line lock artical was very helpful. I really used it to help me get mine done. I'll think about the oil filter, but I have always had good luck with Fram before on my other Hot Rods.

Oh, and it's Mark not Mike.

Ooops...sorry.
I guess I had Brady on the brain. LOL Sorry man.

If you're cool with the Fram, then that's how it goes.
There was TONS of discussion here regarding oil filters. The OEM, 'Viper Badged', and Wix-built (Napa Gold) came out on top.

I'm glad you liked the line lock DIY article and put it to good use. Thanks for the compliment.

BTW- Did that grille place ever pick up the front fascia? I haven't ever heard back from them.

Yep, they did, I never heard anymore either, I figured that was good? Anyway, thanks again to you guys for saving my butt, I just don't pay attention sometimes.
