What does a top shelf paint job cost these days....no body work...color change.....correctly done...inside hood etc...?

If you want show quality inside the doors and hood etc it's between $8,000 and $12,000 for a one color shot with 7-9 mils of clear. In Washington anyway.
 
I agree Nowwhat, a solid color from a perfectionist is $5000-$8000

and I would say design would be $6000 to $10,000

But also I found one guy in fla that would paint the flames I like for around $5500 and his work was spotless.


Just depends on where ya want to go with it bro, I think you could get it done for around $5-6000 and be very happy:D

ill have about 4 to 6 in my paint job on my challenger thats taking it all the way down to the metal. and it will be straight, but that includes some wiring and other stuff. they rebuilt the front end and are installing the windows too.

They quoted my little Z car at 10-12k and would take 'em 3-6 months.....The best painters are really busy... One guy told me his paint jobs started at 15k and when I started to nervously laugh, he hung up on me....

Watcherass out there in custom paint city... It's a jungle.

No need to strip to bare metal. The factory finish is so thin I've sprayed primer/sealer that was thicker. Painting part is easy. Costs are in the details/prep/final buff. To change color as if it came from the factory expect min $4K with most mid quality painters expecting 6-7K. The truely great painters will want $10K. As for expecting 3-4 wks time....Hah! Now that was funny!! Painters will tell you anything you want to hear. 3wks? sure! 4wks? Oh, definitely no problem! Fact is you'll get your truck back when they decide to give it back to you. You can hope for 3-4wks and figure 2 months best case and expect 3-4months...if they like you.

Remember...their only profit is from labor so you're going to pay more for it. I don't think you need to go with "great" painter as single color job is easy. A good final buff will separate the average to great.

Chuck B is correct if I was to do it I would want around $7500 for one solid color and clear with a show finish.
The real bitch is to do it 100% you will need to remove all the panels doors, fenders, bed,ect , If you want graphics or Flames its more.
I have done lots of show cars in my time and they add up to alot of work, The last one was a 70 TA challenger for a customer here in KC and I had over 400 hrs in the body and paint (pic below pink) and my challenger(candy red ) was candy, and I had 3700 just in materials and about 80 hrs in paint and polish.
Even a pic of my ugly mug in there :dontknow:

mike let me try and give you some point of reference, lets say hypothetically somebody gives your truck the old key wax all the way around, every panel on the truck must be refinished including roof, according to insurance regulated estimating programs you will be entitled to R&I all panels, doors ;handles,beltmoldings,mirrors,bodyside moldings, and any other wheatherstriping that would interefer with the set-up, all jams must be back taped as to leave no lines, and I would get R&I front&rear vision with new reveal moldings, you must take all glass out including sunroof, if your bumpers were also keyed then your ins co would have to give you R&I bumpers and refinish off vehicle, figure a little repair time for the panels, not talking about bodywork, basically refinish whole vehicle same color, a quality job is everything you do before you pull the trigger, when the whole truck is R&I ed, and every panel has prepped correctly blocked down by hand, truck compeletly washed, drip dried,wiped down and tacked off then and only then a competent painter who can lay it on nice and flat, then finish off with maybe two dry coats then 3-4 wet coats of clear is all you need, sorry to ramble, but for what I described above I could get 5-6K from a decent insurance company, and this would be what is needed to restore truck to preloss condition with a quality factory refinish of the same color, if you are not after custom paint work like ghost flames, hand pinstripping, and airbrushing, don't let all these prmidonna painters talk crap, I've employed more of these guys then I care to remember, if we are on same coast, I have your truck for 2 weeks, I put my supertalented young painter and his prepper on it and I promise you have it back in two weeks, and it's a sheet of glass that I warranty for the trucks lifetime with you, whenever you ready, you want to ship it the nats next year in ohio, then ship it to me before and I'll get it ready for nats, if your not satisfied with the finished product then you owe me nothing, this is a real standing offer.

paint work is the most misunderstood profession in the world,,,,the guy that did my paint once moved to las vegas for 8 months to do body and paint on a 57 convertable,,,,im not sure what that cost but anyway i looked at it seems like too much

one thing to consider,,,, is the vehicle being painted gona be used to drive on the street? if so then top shelf paint is not a option

if its a weekend warrior,,,or a drive to the track type,,,,,then 10k will getcha just about anything you want

yes production shop, you must be one of those painters who is the only one who can do it right?? the man wanted a quality refinish of a truck that needs no bodywork and or customizing, he just wants the same color done over existing clean panels,I guess you would strip it down to bare metal and prime the whole thing, I mean god forbide you base ontop of what's there already, since mike said there was nothing wroung with the current finish, let me guess your a painter, when you own your shop and have deadlines not everything can be a ground up restoration, but what would you know about deadlines and having to meet a certain amount of production, tell you what brother put your money where you mouth is, go show that purple beuty again, and tell everyone how it only took you 3 months. and I will show you my production work that looks better than your customwork before you are so quick to say some smartass remark, the man wanted his year old truck repainted, no jams no innerstructure, not some 30 year old car done with jams, innerstructure,trunk,engine compartment needed, 80 hrs on bodywork? 80hrs on sand and buff, maybe you gotta buff every car you paint, I missed the part in the factory where they buff them after they are painted, I'm sure you tell em that it will have that factory peel after you sand and rub for a day or two, keep your smartass comments to yourself, painter
 
do you think this is comparable to painting mike's truck, I am sure mikes panels don.t look like this, you are right I forgot my company's name was macco
