How Much Is To Much Compression?

Like the title says how much is to much conpression on our motors? only reason i'm asking it cause my motors being built right now and i plan on staying N/A but my heads have been shaved twice...and the more i think about it the more worried i get?:confused:

There are many variables, the bottom line is not exceeding the flash point of

the fuel that you are using. Vehicle weight, elevation above sea level,

combustion chamber design, camshaft spec's, spark plugs, intake air temp,

are some of the factors. If you are going to stay NA then about 10.5 to 1

is the max that I would run static with 93RM-2 Pump gas.

The last word would be to contact the prof tuners, Marty, Sean, DC,etc.:rock:

Get on the horn and tell your builder what fuel you want to run!

Static compression is determined by piston height and combustion chamber size. Dynamic compression, which is actual compression while running, is determined by camshaft duration. I will use my Coronet engine as an example. It has 11.5 static compression but with my camshaft size and duration [email protected] it has an actual dynamic compression ratio of 8.5 which allows me to run 93 octane pump gas.

The most important part of your initial question is what piston are you going to use??? If you are still using the stock brittle POS pistons, I wouldn't push the compression over 10:1.

If you are going with forged internals it's no problem going with a higher compression.;)
 
hes talking about useing JE flat tops and we are not sure about the cam yet

Stock pistons will hold up fine as long as there is no detonation. And forged pistons will also fail if detonation occures. It just takes a little longer.
