My K&N filter that is on the STS is very dirty. How do you clean that bad boy? How often should it be cleaned?

Smoke they actually make a kit to use, it has some cleaner and some oil to put back on the filter, yatta yatta

I always jsut hose it out real good with strong pressure, let it dry , then put more K@N oil back on the filter.

and it depends in what conditions you run in, if its sandy keep check, otherwise I do mine once a month , no matter how often its driven, its just me tho I'm anal aobut certain things:D

Yep, what Stink said.

You can get the filter cleaning kit from most auto parts stores. That filter is UNDERNEATH the truck, right? I would clean it at least once a month, since it is out in the open like that... Oh, and make sure to don't get too generous with the oil. Too much oil is a bad thing. :)

I just cleaned mine about a month ago. Get the K&N cleaning kit.

1st you spray on the cleaner and let it sit for a few minutes.

2nd you rinse it out, from the inside out so that you don't push the dirt farther into the filter material. Also, do not use high pressure water because you may damage the filter material.

3rd you let it dry in the sun for a few hours.

4th you re-oil it. As mentioned above don't use too much oil. Just oil the pleats and let it soak-in. Afterwards looks for spots that still need oiling and do them lightly.

Yer done.:D

IIRC, K&N says the filters actually work better when they are somewhat dirty.

Of course, they ain't as pretty to look at.:dontknow:

I did the filter cleaning kit.....ONCE.
Now, I just buy a new filter. So much less hassle/time/mess/effort.

I got the kit. If you are driving back from Sav, u can stop here and use it.

That filter has got to be expensive to replace once a month. I thought about getting a new one to put on while I clean the other one. But I don't even know which one to buy.

You have to replace the filter on a Cadillac STS once a month? That's called piss-poor design.

Remove yours and take some quick measurements, then go here and compare for a part #:

I could call them and just order it from them. But I have a feeling that their price will be much higher then anyplace else.

OH!!! It's an STS Turbo System....not an STS Sedan made by Cadillac.
Got it.

Still, if you have to replace the filter once a month, poor design.
Do you have the shield installed? (not that it would help much)

Looks like a regular K&N filter. I'm sure it's in their catalog, and it's probably about $30 at AutoZone.

I don't think it has to be replaced once a month. I'm sure it is based off of either mileage or how dirty it gets. I don't have a shield on it but it does have a sock to help keep it dry. I'm sure it is just a regular K&N, just don't know what size, but it is pretty big.

Just take it off and take it to Autozone (or whatever store you have up there). The stock quite a few of them... Just start comparing until you find it. :)
