how to remove spark plugs

I use a standard socket, it fits fine. I also removed the heat shields from every plug and never put them back on. That was a year ago :)

Not that shield, each plug has a shield,,,,, Take a pair of pliars grab a corner of the shield twist the shield and pull out at the same time. One or two may bend, but just bend them back! when reinstalling put the boot through the shield connect boot then put shield back in! It a pain in the azzzz but thats how I did it! SGT.F
Ahhh...it's for the individual shields for the spark plugs.
Gotcha.

NOTHING in the service manual about those individual shields.
Not a word.

heyy well ok im thinking about remove the heat sheild since i think it look easy to do but i am wondering when it is removed do i have to re-install it back for some reason? can i keep it remove and not install back in?
Unless your exhaust manifold has been coated, you'll want to put the heat shields back on. Both the individual ones for the plugs, and the large one that covers the manifold.

The shields have VERY sharp edges, and can easily scratch paint/powdercoat. Be VERY careful when removing/installing them.

ok i just got one spark plug off! finally, well i remove heat shield and shield for spark plug too but unless i found that the spark plugs that i bought was wrong kind so i just return it and get right one. i decided that i prefer to re-install the heat shield to avoid the melt issue, thanks y'all for these great help and advices!! :D

I used a good pair of needlenose pliers... grabbed the middle of the heat shield, then you can get the plug heat shield wiggled out of there. I did not need to remove all 10 shielding's... I think it was plug 6,8, and 10... all the others I was able to remove spark plug with conventional socket.

Good luck

You don't have to remove the heat shields at all. Some of them are slightly off-axis with the spark plugs (they must install these shields after the plugs go in when they build the engine), and don't allow the socket to get down far enough on the plug. I just tapped on those that were off kilter to get 'em in line, and had no further problems. :)
