How would I polish the intake?

so, that polishing kit there.... will it bring it to smooth or will it just make it a really shiny textured surface?

Does anyone have any links to companies(other than JH, lol) that do polishing? I want to have mine polished to match other goodies.

My guess on doing it yourself would have to be to treat it just like wood !!!Start out course and work yourself finer as you go !!!Aluminum is rough to start with.I made the mistake of just going to the buffing wheel !And although it worked fairly,I would take the time next time and sand first !!!:dontknow:

For chroming and plating, check with a local motorcycle shop.
Talk to the dude with the most tattoos. :)
Those guys know where the best chromers, platers, and polishers in town.

If you're going for "show shine", I'd take all the suggestions above....then sand it again with 800 and one last time with 1200 or 1600. Then clearcoat it with something.
It'll look like f-ing glass.

Yes, the kit will smooth out the intake. You start with sandpaper rolls and sand everything smooth. You will work from coarse to fine grit rolls. Once you have everything smoothed out with the rolls, you then start with the polishing compounds and buff wheels. You can make it look like chrome. However, it takes time and elbow grease. If you got the time and don't mind doing the work, you can't go wrong for $67. I have polished smaller parts and some brackets.

Chrome dipping is definitely a lot easier, but more $$$. I actually prefer the look of polished aluminum over chrome.

Well, $67 bucks ain't bad.... though I didn't really think about it till now, but if I were wait a month for my mentor to get back he could polish it/show me how (he polishes metal armor and swords/knives all the time when he makes them). and of course he has the tools..... Oorrrr... I could just get the kit and go to town lol hmm Something to ponder on.

I've got another project going on now I think you guys will/may like :D

Muzzy - Just noticed you've gotta Caliber. Nice choice; Wouldn't mind having one myself. :D

If you are thinking of getting one, wait for the 08's. It has been a great car so far. However, it has the usual first model bugs to get worked out. They have already made changes to the later 07' production models.

As far as intake polishing...The only thing I would consider is the size of the Viper V10 intake manifold. It is pretty big = lots of time:eek: . I looked at mine and have tossed around just smoothing out the cast finish and have it powder coated ($150 locally).
