Hunting w/ 30.06

One of the BEST suggestions is that statement of Eddies...go get your hands on a few of them at a local Gun shop... "one" will fit you better than the rest...LOP, balance, comfortability, trigger pull/break, price, and appearance should come into play.
Some gun shops might even have a few used ones on the rack...and snap caps so you can get a feel how the trigger breaks...sooner or later you will find "the one"...then go out and rent that caliber at the range, and get a feel for the recoil...no gun is going to do you any good if your trigger shy when your trying to make a good shot.

Here are a few of the 30-06

Tim, you telling me that using a gun when hunting is cheating; that's like me telling you that you using a computer is a smart idea....not the best idea, but you gotta do what you gotta do. :p :D :D

Can't believe that the 30-06 is 103 yrs old this year..... I remember when it first came out.

If yer gonna hunt, use a Bowie knife and yer bare fucking hands....... It's even that way. Anything else is admitting that yer a pussy who's afraid to take on the elements without the overwhelming advantage of a firearm.

At least this guy uses a bow.......

But here's what yer up against taking on a deer mano y mano...

Try it sometime, Mr. Badass Hunter.........

No offense, guys...Just fkn with ya'..... kinda... ;)

Cheating is not the word I would use.......

"Cowardly" is probably more to the point.....

But if you eat what you kill and your aware that taking any life is a sacred act that must only be done with reverence, sobriety and thankfulness- then you get a pass....

I think that the video says it all......

Ted Nugent is a macho pooftah.............. ;) :p :argh: :D

Have to disagree Tim.

We don't have claws, or fangs to hunt with, even though we are a preditor. We have learned to adapt and make tools that allow us to survive. Even early man used sticks or rocks to help them kill animals for food.

Guns are generally more humane too. If the shot is true, the animal is dead in an instant and did not even know what happened. That's one of the issues about bow hunting. Generally they run and bleed out. Sometimes the person can track them, sometimes they cannot. There you have a dead animal that goes to waste and suffered along the way.

I also believe in clubing baby seals. ;) :D

They complain about hunters, but they have no problem stuffing a big mac down their throat or eating a big t- bone steak. Go to the slaughter house and see if the way they kill cows is more humane. what a bunch of Hippocrates.

That, plus the fact that deer can run quite a bit faster than any man.

You are right but, What alot of people complain about is hunters who only kill for the head or rack, and other hunters who will hunt intill that animal is extinct and could care less. But 100% you are right I seen first hand how hotdogs are made and it's been over 6 years and still will not eat one :) I could never work in a slaughter house

Honestly, I have never shot a deer with a gun...all of them have been taken with a Bow...and as far as wasting it...Eddie and a few here can vouch for the Venison I / we make up...none of it goes to waste. People who kill for the horns...and merely hack them off...leaving the meat to waste (they would argue that it's free meat for the predators) make me sick. I have lost a few... 3 in 26 years of Bowhunting...one monster buck...and 2 doe. That buck ran straight to the Maumee River...and it was a wet fall...so the current took him from me...I hit him good too...was dumfounded... and it made me so sick I quit hunting the rest of that season.
Got this fella a few years later.

Honestly...I find hunting with my long time huntin buddies...is kind of like a VTCOA GTG...great to see all the trucks...hit the track...run some great #'s...but it's the time with friends...that is most rewarding.
I am due to go in 3 weeks, however this year I will not be able to make it...:(
Damn shame too, I was planning to get a peek at this fella this fall.

Kenny,

You are not the person I'm talking about..... You have heart...no questions asked.

But, there's alotta morons out there.....

I never liked people that hunt for that trophy buck. I rather kill a lil spike for food then kill a deer a huge rack. Then again I rather not kill Deer at all I rather go elk or buffalo hunting alot better tasting meat.
