I have Read about this on a few websites.
Not the VTCOA, Just a few Unbiased Automotive review websites that say, Overtime, after a few hard launches and about 10,000 miles that the shifter Linkage feels like Grinding a limp broomstick through Wet lumpy concrete.

After I read this in more places than one I begun to question the stability and firmness of my own R/C’s Linkage, I think it is starting to feel a bit Rough around the edges, But im not sure.

My Question is, is there some king of Grease Fitting on the top of the Transmission or under the shift boot that i should know about, and keep Properly Lubricated, Or are we all Doomed to Mediocre Shift Smoothedness???

Your issue is a longstanding one...

Your choices are:

1) Live with it... Cuz it's as quiet as it will ever be.
2) B&M Shifter... which shifts crisper but adds a little bit of gear noise.
3) X-Metal GenX Shifter...which shifts really great but has a even a bit more gear noise.

To be fair but picky (IMO) Option 3 also includes the eccentricity of the shifter making a funny little rotation as it slips thru the gates. Some have found that to be unacceptable.

I drove my truck for about 3 1/2 yrs with the stock shifter. I waited and waited for XMetal to put out their final and (hopefully) perfected model.... I did install it a few months back.... I find it to be acceptable in every way, even though (being somewhat obseesive) I'd rather not have the gear noise (which did NOT go away when I changed to Synchromesh transmission fluid) but it is an easily acceptable trade for never missing 3rd gear......

Let's face it, Ram SRT-10s have shitty clutch hydraulic systems and shitty shift linkage. They're arguably the weakest links in the entire vehicle. Change them both out and you drastically improve the overall driveability of these trucks.

Some people have no problems with there stock shifter, Some have hated them from the get go!!

Make sure all the mounting bolts are tight and you may want to remove the rubber noise isolator. There are some that claim this helps alot.

Your best bet is Boomers new shifter!!

I drove the stock for more then a year and indeed you don't hear nor feel the "click" in each gear. Also lauching hard it was no exception i couldn't get it in 3the.

Now with the GENIV from Boomer it shifts more "racy" , you have the "clicks" , 3the comes easy ( alto i missed once on circuit  ) , the noise... can live with that ( again racy ? :D ), but.... daily use sometimes i get confused were the hell in which gear it is... reverse is mostly dififcult to take and cold starting, first launch i cannot get 2de... ( this is here now in the morning around freezing temp. )

I think it's the rotating action which put you sometimes confused were the hell you are in gears...

Now orderd the jedi lever and installing it i will see what i can do .....

I love the look of the stock shifter, so I'm gonna keep it for now. I alternate between the stock ball and the Hurst T-handle. The T-handle REALLY helps with hitting 3rd for some reason. I've NEVER missed 3rd with it. I've missed 3rd a lot with the ball, however.
