Tonight as I was taking my son to Thomasville my tuck suddenly lost it's power steering and ability to effectively cool the engine. The pump starting whining as if it were out of fluid. Stopped checked fluid it was still full, the underside of the truck had some fluid around the tranny crossmember, nothin leaking though. The oil temp got over 210 and the engine temp reached about 220. I let it cool checked everything out and limped her home. The pump is whining still. I will take it to dealership tommorrow. I only have 14k miles on it. Out of curiosity does anyone have any real ideas about what has happend or is causing this?

the powersteering pump runs the fan, its a hydostatic driven fan. the dealership should be able to quickly replace your Pwr steering pump, and get you back onthe road.

True, mine whines a bit after it sits for awhile. Always has done that.... Sometimes I wonder if it's gonna go kablooey.....

I think it's kind of a weak link.....

so are the metal return lines that are on the power steering rack. i have had 3 break or leak, and now we have them replaced with custom lines.
i dont think the stock pump can handle the demand on it from the fan, the rack, etc. its a touchy part.

Thanks for the replies guys ! I thought that was what it was but I didn't know it had been a problem.
