Today I was working on my truck.. cleaning it up a little bit.. taking care of a door ding left by wonderful disrespectful moron...

So I have my truck pulled mostly out of the garage.. and as I am kneeling down working on the door ding... with my keys in my pocket.. and door opener/alarm remote... the garage door starts to come down... and before I could get up, and get the keys out of my pocket to stop it.. it hits my bumper and leaves three 1/4" gouges in the paint....

I was just sick...

thats horrible

Well, I would take a vacation day tomorrow, get the cover off, and get it to a good paint shop; then probably take another day to reinstall, and still yet another day to wash it. Actually, if it were me, I would just take the entire week, because nothing but the bumper would be on my mind!

I think using some paint filler, and black matching paint, I am able to fix it...

That sucks !!! Know how you feel, have a real nice crease in my right rear fender from a misplaced garbage can :(

Uh, you should see DJ's tailgate...He might want to go on summer vacation.

I don't know you guy's and don't want to join your club and any form or fashion. You scratch and dent guy's just move along.

How did the door come in contact with the truck? Was it the bottom of the door making contact or did a handle on the the door cut the bumper? Just curious because if the bottom edge of the door hit the bumper, it should have felt resistance and reversed. Although some installers crank down on the reverse dial if the door won't balance right. Another way to stop a door coming down is to break the sensor beam (on doors since '84). Those little electric eye sensors at the bottom the track. Sorry to hear about all the customizing (unintentional) going on.

Dont know about your neck of the woods but we have a company here called same day scratch and dent and they don phenomenal work for a reasonable price!! I had a broad actually let a grocery cart roll across the parking lot and hit the drivers side rear fender on my truck and leave a huge dent in it and they got it out without paint. You cant even tell it was ever there. cost me $250.000.
:D

When ever I'm working on my truck where it's hanging out a little I always lock the garage door opener so it will not function.

Not all models have that ability. Many openers only have what looks like a doorbell button to activate. Deluxe versions have the wall button station that controls the lights on the motor and disables the radio receiver so that it cannot be activated.

Your VTCOA Doorman

Yes he actually has the plastic welder and all of the tools to make it likke new !! I have used him many times for my various rigs and he has always made it look like not a scratch!!:D

On my the bottom of my door just before the rubber seal, there is a aluminum strip that sticks out about 1/8 inch, thats what caught it.

The door did go back up when it felt the resistance... so not only did it get it going down.. it got it coming back up...

My sensor beam does work..but it was just the tad bit of my nose sticking into the garage.... and the beam was going under the truck... had I had the lowering kit on.. the beam would have been broken...and door would not operate.

I know exactly what your saying. Just one of those positions that will catch you wrong. The beams shooting under the truck and just enough of the bumper in the garage for the door to catch the front of it instead of coming in contact with the top. Just one of those situations you never guessed would happen. The aluminum strip is the bottom rubber retainer (astragal). Sorry to hear about the scrape but at least your door is working as it should.

It is cool.. its weird.. in a demented way.. that most of us VTCOAers seem to like or be like... :D look at the trucks we drive.. some would think that 500hp is enough... but not many of us... there is no such thing as TOO MUCH power..
