So I put on that MOPAR CAI and low temp thermostat last weekend and I didnt really notice until yesterday that when I get on it (AKA...putting the pedal to the floor from a start) that the tires don't chirp anymore after leaving first gear.:confused: Why does it not do it anymore? Did I lose horsepower or is it because I have more torque now? I don't know, I'm not really all that knowledgeable in cars but I thought that they would still chirp! I'm gonna go out tonight and see what's up......:dontknow: Can anybody tell me whats up?
 
Maybe you just can't hear it as well because of more air flow due to the CAI. Hell I don't really know. Dyno and track times are the only way to really tell if you lost some HP. I doubt you lost HP and if you gained more TRQ then you should still be able to chirp. But Blake is right about the tranny. Could be just braking in some more. Think of it this way. Spinning the tires is just traction lost.

More torque = more spin, so that ain't it. There's been lots of opinion that the CAI kits have questionable HP gains. Lots of guys can't tell any difference, and seems like the K&N (or equivalent) drop-in is the best bang for the buck. But, I wouldn't expect you would lose power. It may be that the power curve has shifted. You may need to be at a different RPM when shifting. Like Flying Low said, only the dyno or track times can tell if you've lost something.
 
Well, there have been little proof that most CAI's add any rwhp/ft lbs. In warmer temps would bet that you might lose hp over the stock setup. Although in coller temps you might have larger gains in lower rpms. Your PCM may be still adjusting for the mods and running a little rich. These engines like to run on the lean side (N/A anyway) and you may want to move to a Stage II PCM upgrade to get the most out of your mods. Otherwise the T-Stat wont make much difference and the best mod on the QC is the PCM upgrade ;)
 
Krazy, it could be not related at all. Your tire pressure could be lower hence more traction. Are you doing this on the same road? Different roads produce different results, I have noticed this myself when chirping second gear. Some roads have way more traction than others.

CAI's, hate hot weather, was it extra hot and or humid today, this week? Does your tranny feel like its slipping? Time will tell whats going on. Flash ugrade is the biggest improvement mod you can add to your truck, as the others have stated.

How is the sound of the new CAI? Does it have that cool sucking sound?

It has the super awesome sucking sound and tonight I chirped thourh third gear (but it was turning out of a parking lot) however I think the reason I wasn't noticing it was that I was trying to get them to chirp on a rolling start. I am realizing way better gas mileage and I am starting to feel more HP when starting off the line. on a side note; I went to a little car show tonight near my house and I had a hard time picking the "Tang" off of my truck----I kinda liked it but don't tell my wife!!(it was the first time!!:D:D:D:D

When I first got my truck(new), it would chirp second all the time. After I put some miles on her, the chirp went away. I really thought it was because the tires were getting a little stickier with wear. Purchased a stage 2 flash, and the chirp is back!
 
I can't wait to get a flash but that is something for another day according to the Devil that is holding my credit card (AKA wife)......

You should look around for a used flash. Sometimes they pop up for sale.
 
You might want to wait till you have a few miles on it. My SC truck was quick when new, quicker then my Hemi SC. As the miles rolled on I noticed the engine started to pull harder, less bog like the timing was starting to advance more. Then I reached 6500 miles and holy sh*t this thing has so much more power. Scary on wet roads if you start to play at all. Fun fun fun!:D
 
How is that possible?? I'm not really all that familiar with engines for things that roll on the ground!!:D
 
The stock computers have some type of break-in period. I think it is a combo of miles and how you drive it. Once you hit the magic number the truck seems to "Wake up". Before the flashes were out this was a big complaint of the QC guys. After about 1K miles the truck seem to perform better.

Also did you reset your PCM when you put in your mods? If not then unhook the battery for about 15 minutes. Then drive it for a few days so the PCM can adjust to the different amount of airflow.
 
Good idea, I need to do that...should I do it since I just put a tonneau cover on it too??:D J/K... I got my Viper Badges today from Dragon and I got my tonneau cover which I had to put on at the freight place cause the box was HUGE!!! I'll post pics someday but right now my house is a pig stye in preperation for tomorrows pack out!! I'll keep you guys posted!!
