Hey Guyz (...and Galz)!!!

I got a Car show in Pearl Harbor on Sunday and I need help!!! I'm pretty meticulous about keeping the Truck Clean but I want this Baby Sparkling for the show!!:dontknow:

So This is a multiple part question!!!

First: What all should I clean in depth? (Besides the Engine Bay, Washing and Waxing.)

Second: What kind of cleaners/"shiny stuff" do you guys use for things like the rims, fender wells, engine bay and interior?

Please give me your inputs as soon as you can, I have limited time cause I work like krazy and I might have to work Saturday so this is all nite time ops! ;) :p

Thanks for all your help and expertise in advance!!!!

I start with two buckets one with joy dish soap 2nd one has clean water , then liquid glass paint cleaner then liquid glass polish and finish 2nd coat of the polish and finish then I top it with NXT and you get a nice mirror finish with depth. I also use it on the wheels looks damn good if you have the time.

Cheers J.T.

zaino products come highly recommended. search the forum too, there are tons of threads with the info you are looking for.

I wash mine every 2500 miles whether she needs it or not - used ajax last time, buffed all that orange peel right out :p :p :D

you gotta go with Zaino, you'll be amazed. Check out there site at www.zainostore.com I've used their stuff for years and have yet to find a better and easier way to fully detail your car.

If you need to pick up something quick, I've tried and liked the Turtlewax Ice products. They have spot free car wash soap and synthetic wax that doesn't leave any white residue and you can use it on plastic. I think they even have a clay bar system that I haven't tried yet. For the tires I use a product by Dupont with teflon in it. Shines the tire up and doesn't sling off all over the truck. For the engine I used STP Son Of A Gun tire cleaner shine. It cleans and shines everything all at once. Just don't get it on the belt.

For the engine I use the wife's tooth brush.

Just don't tell her. She will never find out.

Hahaha, ;) :D

Yeah but, this weekend i took off my rims and cleaned them throughly as i
have a car show this weekend also! here's my little secret. For the leaf
springs and undercarrage or any tubes that look like there faded use
WD-40.. gives it that brand new look without having to repaint the damn
thing.. i just wouldn't use it anywhere other that stationary parts like the
axel, leaf springs, etc... also, i took some of this crap called Purple power
and sprayed it down on my engine let it soak for about 15 mins. and power
washed the engine... damn thing looks new! i think this is in a thread btw..

Short notice? Go to Parts Store and get Meguires NXT or Gold Classe. That shit is awesome.

Step 1 Beer
Purchase case of beer and open it. Always have a beer near-by.

Step 2 Wash
Wash truck with Dawn dishwashing detergent IN THE SHADE You don't want that crap baking on the paint. The surface of your truck must be nice and cool. This will strip all the existing wax off your truck. Plus it allows the new wax to adhere better. Also, when washing use 100% cotton or microfiber

Step 3 Claybar
Claybar truck with Dawn detergent. This will ensure all the little bug guts and shit like that are off the paint.

Step 4 Apply Wax
After the truck dries you can apply your wax or polish. Application should be done with a 100% cotton pad or microfiber (Tip, apply wax in a front to back motion on "top" panels ie: hood, top, toneau. On the sides and tailgate apply in a up and down motion.) This will reflect light better ;) Also work in small sections. 2'x2' See Step 5

Step 5 Remove Wax
Removal should be done with premium 100% cotton or microfiber towels These materials reduce swirl marks significantly. Removal should in the "motions" as application.

Step 6 Mist Detail
We all know wax leaves a little residue. Get yourself some Mist Detailer to finish up.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

NEVER wash your truck with Dawn, UNLESS you're WANTING to strip the wax off.

Wash from the top down, emptying/changing water as needed. This will reduce scratches. I always wash my wheels with its own mitt/towel.

Always WASH with 100% cotton and or microfiber. Again, to reduce swirling.

Always REMOVE WAX with 100% cotton or microfiber. Why? See above. :D

When I say 100% cotton, I mean the nice expensive towels from Bed Bath & Beyond. Not terry towels. :) The higher the thread count the better. White also, colored one's contain dyes which break down the cotton in time.

Always wash in the shade.

Dry with compressed air or leaf blower, but if you have to, 100% cotton or MF.

Hope all this helps!

^^^^^^ That's the way it's done!

Also, remove your wheels and clean the insides... Clean your brake calipers while you have the wheels off (you can use soap or brake cleaner, depending on how dirty they are).

I use a aerosol type tire dressing for the inner fenders/engine bay. It is usually a store brand (Autozone/Advance Auto). I do this because 1) It's cheap 2) It goes on evenly with a thin coat (doesn't look "greasy").

TIP: Clean the engine and "dress" it BEFORE you clean/wax the outside of the truck. :)
TIP: Put tire dressing on your tires when you get to the show, NOT before you leave the house. Also bring a micro-fiber towel (or 2) with you along with a bottle of spray detailer (like Meguires Final Inspection, or NXT Generation....)

Ah yes! Good tip! Also, do the interior BEFORE the inside too. Always work top to bottom & inside to out. I keep the detailer and window cleaner in the truck. I use window cleaner on the wheels as a "final" step. Soap & water never seem to get it all.

I can luckily reach through and clean my wheels, but if you're wanting a full fledged detail Kris, remove em for sure.

I didn't like to "dress" the fender wells. Dust always seemed to stick to it. I always degreased em, and let em be. UNLESS you're at a show, then I would dress em.

Keep the tips coming though....just in case we have missed something or there is a product readily available at the Autozone or PepBoys you might think is worthwhile!!:D

I already have the griots orbital with the polish and wax but I dont like it! I think Meguiars is way better and I like applying by hand! I will dfinately use the Dawn Dish soap thing and then I must Clay Bar my truck again. (Painters got spray all over it!):(

Btw...I dont know if you guys have heard of this but its called Hawaiian Ice...Supposedly gets rid of water spots! Ill try it out and let you guys know!:)

Another tip is RINSE your truck with the Mr Clean auto dry doo-hicky. It has a water softener/filter and truely does reduce spotting. (Haven't heard of Hawaiian Ice, must be specifically available to you)

Wash with prefered soap in a bucket. The Mr clean soap cuts wax too, like Dawn does. I only use the Mr Clean thing to rinse, thats it.

Meguiers NXT or Meguires Gold Classe is available at any autoparts stores as well as department stores. Look for anything with polymers and silicone. Polymer protects and silicone shines. . . The key is balancing the two. :)

I have to agree with you Jimi... Mr. Clean gun is awesome for final rinse. It really does work. You still need to run around with a towel after it sheds the water, but no water spots and thats the goal.

I have just gotten the clay bar from Pepboys. It somes with the spray, clay, and some wax. Tried it on my QC first. Seems like it does do something.

I usually bring my rig to a good carwash first to get it douched then bring it home to detail it.
