I have been a vicitm of identity theft. I was able to go through the proper channels and find out who did it. I also went to the police and made a report with computer crimes. The person was approached and denied the accusation despite concrete proof.

The police told me that because it is a multiple dwelling and it was denied, they could not make an arrest. I was told that the case could be passed onto the DA's office for review. After weeks of inquiry, I was told today that it never even went to the DA ofice due to the sgt stating that not enough evidence was shown.

I am furious....

I have log in times, IP addresses, changed password verifications, and been told verbally that this person did it. The person who did it used to be an associate of mine. All of the info was traced to his house yet I dont have enough evidence???

The police have told me they will confront him again this wek and call me back on Friday. I have little faith in them now. I also know that this person has some pull with the local police. Is it posible they can try to sweep this under the rug?

I am going to put a lawyer on this now. Can anyone give me some advice on how I should proceed or been a victim of this?

I don't have any advice, but I hope you get this POS. He needs to learn a lesson.

Bill.

Scott, I am very sorry to hear brother. :(

Has this person actually USED your identity (Purchased, bought adopted children)? Or did he simply gain access to your passwords and such - just to f*ck with you.

Trek - sorry to hear about this man. Was anything charged on CC, bank info taken? Hopefully it will all work out.

Kind of late now but I use credit alert from Equifax. I get emails within 24 hours if anything is posted to my credit record (new account, inquiry, etc). I also have it set to let me know if any balances go up by 10%. Sorry you are having to go through this. Good luck.

IS THERE A FEDERAL AGENCY THAT LOOKS INTO THESE TYPE OF THEFTS---contact them --especially if the guy has local connection with the police in your area....or maybe the state authorities

Nothing to do with credit cards, but mostly to just monitor my emails to see what I was doing. Lots of corespondence with attorneys and business interests.

I am dealing with the local DA office now. I hope I can get somewhere. Completely violated..... This is all part of a bigger thing going on in my life right now but I assumed that what was done was so incriminating that it would be a slam dunk.

The DA may tell be giving me better news than the police.

That's "good".

Didn't the ex-associate sign some sort of waiver upon being hired about trade secrets and confidentiality and privledged information?

They broke in for more informational purposes. There was really nothing to see thankfully, but that is where part of the issue is.

It seems that if there is no actual loss, (aside from a feeling of privacy) they put little to no attention to it. All I can wish for is a slow painful death to them.

Hopefully the DA will take care of it for you ----Good luck ---Keep us informed

I hope so, everyone seems so corrupt these days... Who can you trust when you dont have a friend that knows someone? :dontknow:

I lose faith in my fellow mankind when people do things like this. Some people just have too much time on their hands...

Dude, hire someone to kick his azz and when the police come to you just deny it:D

Sounds like corporate espionage, I would get a lawyer.

Take him down!!!

Don't know anything about them, but there name was the number one return

Reading the front page sound just like what you were explaining

BTW....

I was faced with the same kind of problem. My lawyer put it to me this way Cost vs Return.

If I was successful in my persuit of justice, would I get what I was awarded based on the ability to pay of the one being sued. My problem was, no, they were dead broke trying to build a business off my dime. Our only action was to bring forth the truth and it killed this other persons ability to persue a carrer in information and clients stolen from our company.

Our net gain, was only a smile

If there wasn't a theft (other than your passwords and your privacy), you're gonna have a hard time getting the authorities to do anything with it. If the person's denying it, the cops are gonna have to put a good bit of work into making a case against them. They're not gonna put their computer techs on a case if something of cash value wasn't stolen.

The person who did that to you is a dick (or a bitch)...I'm suspecting the latter. I would assume if it was a guy (assuming you're a guy as well), you would have just beat his ass and been done with it.

Sorry to hear about that. It blows. I hope the cops in your area care enough to pursue it.

Still waiting to hear back from the DA. Lets see, left VM, county servant, day before holiday break, chances of call back....

Maybe Gaboon has the right idea.
