If you were going to race an SRT-10, which year would you choose?

I'm planning to enter an SRT-10 into the One Lap of America race this coming spring. The race is 8 days, each day has track events in the vehicle, plus the vehicle must run under it's own power between events. The total mileage is a little over 3000 miles plus the track time.

I'm leaning towards a 2005 or 2006 because of the larger brakes and higher axle ratio. Are there are any compelling reasons to choose the 2005 vs. the 2006? I understand the 2005 is a little lighter, but 2006 has a stiffer chassis/frame.

I'm less fussy about the cosmetics between 2005 and 2006, although that factory lid with the wing on the 2006 models is very nice.

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

04-05 More cupholders :D

Some say the seats in the 05 are more comfortable. There was a silver srt 10 05 i think in one lap of america a few beers back, won the slot for best burnout. :burnout:

brakes are the same size, the 05-06 has 4 piston calipers vs the 04's 2 piston, some members have swaped the brakes on 04's to the 05-06 calipers and have said they don't notice and differance, i'd go for an 04-05 since it lighter. are you planing to mod it at all or just run it stock?

Given the situation, 05 is lighter and with the track events a manual transmission will give better performance and mileage.

For this year, we are planning to run the truck stock. I'll change the rotors and brake pads to a performance compound, and we have to buy new tires from one of the event sponsors, but I don't want to mess with too much else. If we go back and do the race a second time, I'll look into spending some money on the truck. I guess suspension upgrades and maybe engine work to make more power, but from the looks of things, Dodge did a pretty good job with these, considering they are 5000 pound vehicles.

I have a 2005 Chevy SSR I wanted to run, but since it's a convertible, I have to weld in a roll cage. The Ram can run as it is. I'm a truck guy at heart, I wanted one of the SRT-10's when they came out.

Thanks for the suggestions!

go 2005...and do SILVER!!!!!!!!!!!its the fastest color....look at the Timeslips:D

Realisticly... a 2005 RC with a few normal mods will be best... Better brakes on the '05. Put on JMB's catless mid-pipes, a cat-back of your choice, JMB's CAI and catch can, Stinker's lowering kit, some better brake pads (any recommendations for track use, fellas??? I'm thinking EBC RED's :dontknow: ).... and you should be good to go! :burnout:

OH!!! And have someone make you a BIG ASS VTCOA.COM sticker for the truck! :D

OH!!!!!! :D And get one of THESE: http://www.griotsgarage.com/product...basic&keyword=video&sortby=newArrivals&page=1
