Please, I think this is still the case, it's been a few years since I was a CEO, but the I-9 forms can not be kept in the personnel file of the employee!!!!!
I-9's must be kept in a seperate file away from the personnel file. This is to be sure that personnel decisions are not made based on nationality, race, or anything like that...some one please correct me if that has changed in the past few years.
I'm not sure if it is REQUIRED to keep the form separate from other personnel files... But, I do think it is good practice. If only to keep hiring personnel honest in the process, and only give them the info they NEED to hire a new worker.
