I don't know what to say about this, except to say it's sad.

LAHORE, Pakistan -- An annual kite festival Sunday in eastern Pakistan has left at least 11 people dead.

Officials said two died after their throats were cut by metal kite strings. Kite flyers often use string made of wire or coated with ground glass to try to cut the strings of rivals or damage other kites.

The festival is also often marked with celebratory gunshots fired into the air. Five people died after being hit by stray bullets.

Two people were electrocuted when they tried to untangle kites from overhead power cables.

Two others fell from roofs. One was a boy chasing a stray kite. Another was a woman trying to stop her son from going after a kite.

Police arrested more than 700 people during this year's festival for using sharpened kite strings or firing guns. Officials said they also seized more than 280 illegally held weapons.

Not even a simple kite flying festival can be held without extreme competition and wanting to damage other peoples property.:dontknow:

EXTREME KITE FLYING,want to play, got to pay !!!Dearly obviously !!!!

I fly kites as a hobby too. People have no idea how strong the string is. I fly with Spectra and Kevlar. I have had several slashes across my face from people flying into me. I actually know of several deaths and horrific accidents from Kite surfing and other forms of traction kiting. Believe me even kite flying can be extreme. Most west coast beaches outlaw kiteflying for these very reasons.

Damn, another activity my kids will never see because it will get outlawed. What happened to a nice lazy day at the beach or park flying a plastic batman kite?

It is still there it just takes a few uninformed people to ruin a perfectly innocent activity.

That kite festival is like their superbowl....the book "The Kite Runner" (exceptional book)....spells it out....kind of a a rites of passage for young men...

The strings are coated with broken glass and then you steer your kite as to cut the string of others...that is the sport.....the last kite in the sky is the winner and the man...
