This cannot be right. I watched a little promo video on "on demand" cable the other night about the new Impala SS's. There was nothing else on and I was bored.

I think it was on Car and Driver TV. Anyway, they have little clips showcasing new vehicles. They show the car from different camera angles and it tells you the engine type, stats, etc. Well...They claim that the 300 and something hp fwd Impala SS is capable of 0-60 in five seconds flat. That's got to be bullshit. At least I would think.

I've seen new stock Impala SS's run some shitty times at the track, and I find it difficult to believe they can hit 60 mph just as fast as our trucks. Is this for real?

Funny this comes up! My wife is driving one as a rental right now! And I can vouch for it's quickness! It's pretty impressive! I didn't actually time it, but that might be about right.

It's great on gas too. It goes from 8 cyls to 4 to save fuel, and you never know that it's doing it!

Pretty nice ride, I like it!

They will run low/mid 5s but no 5 flats......Car & Driver tests are, well, anyway......at any rate the Impala SS is just a POS front wheel drive...JMHO of course...:)

My understanding they were fast, but not all quick off the line.

Ok thats good because one was messing with me on the freeway but i didn't budge at all.

If I was going to travel a lot for work, I would buy a Ford Police Interceptor (Crown Vic). The Detective models are outfitted just like the regular civilian model on the inside, and you can usually find nice low mileage units without holes in the trunk (for antennas). I always liked the look of them w/ the black steel wheels and chrome center caps. They are pretty damn fast with a Kenny Bell supercharger installed too. :nurse: Tim Allen has one that he keeps at his beach house in Benton Harbor, MI (I used to live right up the road from him). :)

Arn't they basically the same as the Mercury Marauders that some Highway patrols are using?

The 94-96 Impala SS was fast (and heavy!). But, not nearly as fast as the SRT-10. I know! This is what I traded in for my SRT:

Crown Vic's a made to run. My neighbor is on the police department and his would fly.

I look for used police interceptor on ebay. I don't think my girlfriend would appreciate driving around in a use cop car. oh well who invited her....he he

No... they have many improvements. They have I-Beams in the doors, and all of the equipment is "Heavy Service" rated... like rear-end, transmission, 200A alternator... etc. And, they are MUCH cheaper. :D ;)

They had the LT-1 which was the current Corvette motor at the time...I was a Lot Attendant at a Chevy Dealership back in 96 and I got to drive the last Impala on the lot....

HEY! How was I supposed to know it was already SOLD!;):p

Crown vics are fast sure. But they're still a musker-mobile. Every time I see a "civilian" driving one, I have to wonder if they bought it just to be a prick and mess with people. I know this retard who's a security guard and he drives one ..complete with 2-way antenna (no actual radio..just the antenna). There's nothing more pathetic than a wanna-be cop.

dad's a cop vics are slow.......... police interceptor is the same 4.6 as any other crown vic with a hd cooling system tranny cooler, charging system and suspension. He just traded his Maurader on a 300c.

The Maurader was a turd, it was tons faster than his squad car. The Magnum would beat that thing silly, i'd put carrier lenths on him........in a station wagon!
