So after driving for 20 years I am going to get a radar detector. What I want is a built in radar detector instead of having one sit on my dash. It seems like the passport sr7 is my only choice (and way expensive). Is that really my only choice? The stereo stores around Danbury, CT are awful and I can't get good advice.

I have already read the radar thread, but it didn't answer my question.

Thanks

Follow-up question as well. Has anyone hardwired a detector in a 06 qc?

I copied someone on here and got a sr7 and a V1, sr7 is the way to go, I like the v1 because of the dirrectional arrows so you know were to look though... I got the sr7 for 450$ and put it in in under an hour...

 dumd q but i have to ask....Any one have a radar detector on their motorcycle??? Is it even possible??? I'm considering v_1...any input

V1 is the way to go. hardwire it and mount it near the top of the windshield.

I have the V1 in my truck but use an Escort Solo on my 14. It's battery powered but picks up every bit as good as the V1. I have a StemStand that it's attached to. The V1 is a little to bulky on a bike imo. Here's a pic of it on my ZX-10

I'm afraid that the old adage applies..."you get what you pay for."

There are cheap radar detectors, and they work...at about 50 yards from the gun...way too late.

These days if you are serious about this technology, you do two things:

1. Purchase the best detector you can get, and
2. Purchase a front and rear transmitter to scramble the laser detectors.

Triggered laser detectors will hit you and no matter what the lead time if you have been targeted your speed is recorded. Some detectors will pick up stray emissions ahead of time...but the nature of the laser (read narrow and focused) make avoidance difficult...so transmit a signal that makes the laser gun in-capable of reading speed. This technology is currently legal in all states.

Costs for entire systems cost around $700, installed.

What system costs 700? It sounds like the zr3/sr7 is the only option but thats 1400. If there is something else, please tell me, I am all ears.

Passport 8500 blue about $335, and the Laser Scrambler about $400.

I found a rx75 with scrambler for 585. It sounds like it is the exact same thing as the sr7. Any opinions?

Seth

I bought the rx75 with diffusers on ebay for $585. Circuit City will install for 55 bucks. Not bad.

I have the SR1 AND the V1 in my car...When both are on, the V1 picks up everything the passport does. BUT the V1 picks it up Sooner, and holds it longer (when you pass the radar going the other direction). The passport also does not pickup a lot of things the V1 does.

I like the way the V-1 tells you what direction , And how many. Just my .02

I believe these folks can help you out in the stealth installation. They should be able to provide you with a V1 integrated into the rear view mirrior.

Dont messa round

Find an authorized dealer / shop & get a K-40 its a true jammer & detector system no BS it works and its got the best back up, they pay the ticket if you happen to get one. Its not cheap but well worth it, take it from me 130mph in Nevada can cost you up to $1500+2 day school

Valentine makes a remote display. When it's plugged in, the main unit goes dark. You can mount it just about anywhere. It shows everything the main unit does and has a mute button on it. You still have to control the volume on the main unit but everything else is seen on the remote.
