I am looking for a remanufactured ,possibly Jasper,302 engine for my Bronco

Do they offer cam options ,such as a low rpm/rv/torque type cam or do I need to just order one from Summit/Jegs/Stinker ?

Also,do they come with intake manifold ? I will be re-using the stock Ford Motorcraft 2bbl carb. Should I re-use the stock manifold or is there an aftermarket low rpm/torque manifold available for the 2 bbl ?

:dontknow:  :dontknow:  :dontknow:  :dontknow:  :dontknow:

what do you want out of it?

what do you want it to do?

fuel mileage or stump pullling trq?

4wd I am sure, but mo info, and I will check into a few sources.

"most" dont offer cam selection,
some come with an intake

but most of the "crate" motors are a come "as is" deal.

but it really all depends on what you want to do with it good sir

I will be using it mostly for trail and off-road - rock crawling ,but I will be driving it to the trail on the street.I am not looking for a high HP fire breather ,just a lot of low-end grunt/torque.Decent fuel mileage is always a good thing ,too :D

I was thinking a Jasper engine with an offroad/RV type cam ,and maybe :dontknow: an after market manifold

also want shorty headers for better torque :D

I will do some checking a bit later and see what I can come up with for ya, but a cam change might be in order "after" the purchase. as well as the headers and other small things:)

worked at a ford dealer for years an sold jasper motors they do build a great motor an they have a great warranty just be careful if you start changing a cam might void your warranty

if your looking for low-end torque you may want to see if you can put a 351 in it, and a good CHEAP cylinder head for the fords is the GT40P that came on the 5.0 explorers. although if you went with a 351 you'd need a new intake. the power difference from the 302 to the 351 is more than i thought it'd be, i had and 89 f-150 reg. cab with a 5.0 and my buddy had a 93 ext cab long bed f-150 with a 351 and he'd stomp me anytime we ever raced.

I know the 351 is way more powerful and that is the reason I don't want to go that route.I just want to maximize the 302's torque potential. If I go too high with the HP,I will start breaking parts.I am actually really happy with the stock engine in it now (from '74 !!) so I just need a bit more torque to walk over the rocks. Also, the 351 swap requires a few changes that I don't want to make in my Bronco, so that leaves the 302

I also need a FORD 4x4 steering box and an idea on a disc brake swap :D

I made a couple calls and waiting on a return call, but heck no one wants to get anything done! I knwo its the holidays , but dang, ya aint off all week:argh:

Had a thought. Don't know how legitimate it is or even if it can be done but......what about a 5.0 out of a Mustang? Get the reliability of the EFI and tons of aftermarket stuff available. Like I said don't even know if it will bolt up but thought I'd share my question.

Thanks !

It will work great except that I am keeping this thing old-school ....
well,except disc brake conversion
that safety thing is a pretty high priority ;)
if correctly re-built,the Motorcraft 2 bbl carb is about as good as it gets

some have swapped in 429's and even a diesel here and there
I am a big fan of Ford and the 289/302 so I want to keep it simple and easy for me to work on

Thanks

I wish I had taken some of what it looked like originally :(

It is so cool ! I am thinking of buying a really nice ,fully restored and updated one for a daily driver and just use this one for off-roading/rock crawling

I am looking at a 74 Toyota FJ40 that is a serious off road beast ,but he wants $10,000 for it !

those fj's hold their value like crazy....

i want one...:D

This one was a California truck that used to compete in races
The stock sheet metal was removed and then re-done in a really heavy gauge metal,it has lockers front and rear,4.88 gears, twin stick diff. shifters,a high HP straight 6 with headers and a 4 bbl ! I could go on and on about the super cool mods  like hard and soft tops, lift, rocker protectors, ooooooooooohhhhhhhh:D

It is well worth the money

Looking at lots of options :dontknow:  :dontknow:  :dontknow:  :dontknow:

used, but good condition 302 vs. reman Jasper engine ??????? where to look ?

Upgrade to all 4 wheel disc brakes or just front discs or go with power brake vacuum booster and keep the drums ?? OR use a hydro-boost system ?

buy new kit or use parts from a Ford truck ?

New power steering box and pump or use Ford 4x4 box and upgraded pump ?
need a tilt steering column ,too

I don't plan to do a LOT of rock crawling, but I don't want parts breaking if I do
NO MUD !!!!!!!!! cleaning sucks !!!!!!
mostly trails and a little off-trail rock climbing

Got Stinker working on some prices and ideas for me,just looking for all the input I can get

looking to keep the costs as low as I can
