Does anyone know or have info on how to treat, or symptoms, causes, the entire nine yards on Staph infections.

I got a good friend that has aquired one, and I am kinda, well actually really concerned.

The infection is in the lower leg area

thanks ahead of time

hate to hear that! But, I have a good friend that just spent 3 days in a hospital for the same problem. I sent him an email asking how they treated him and what his symptoms were. Standby......

There's so many kinds of staph now... Many times the spread of the infection comes from poor septic practices by phlebotomists... (people who draw blood) These healthcare workers are supposed to wash their hands after coming into contact with a patient AND ALSO put on a fresh and sterile set of gloves... They DO NOT.

As a result they transmit the disease from the skin surface of one patient and actually inject it (from the epidermal surfaces) into the next patient's body.... This happend to me when I was hospitalized in '92.. I nearly died.... (my apologies to you all). I should have sued the fkn hospital...

The cure is an extensive regimen of I.V. antibiotics..... I was on them 24hrs a day for about a week....

This is nothing to fk around with... See a doctor immediately... He will get the patient on a course of intranvenous antibiotics if he /she has their shit together....

thats tthe way I feel, they should be on intravenous deal and not a pill:mad:

I am pretty aggravated right now, they wouldnt go tothe hospital, instead talked the Doc into letting them go home, stay off there feet for a week and take a few strong pills,
but from everything that I have read over the past couple hours, striaght to the blood stream seems the only way to cure it:dontknow:

The doctor cannot acertain the levels of infection without running a blood panel for Staph... Over the phone is fkn horseshit..... Like I said, I nearly died.... This is nothing to fk around with... He could be impacted by this for the rest of his life....

God bless him..... I hope the infection is not serious......

thats why I'm ill, he cant even walk:mad:

And just hope that the staph is not MRSA!!! If it is, everyone around him is at risk too.

If you are within reach, go to his house and carry him to the hospital!! His chances of fighting a full-blown staph infection are slim without the proper treatment! And it doesn't sound like the doctor was able to fully diagnose!

So, was he there and left AMA?? Or was this all over the phone?

see these in the er everyday all day. if abscess is present usually can incise and drain with oral antibiotics and are ok. all depends on presentation of pt, extent of infection. we rarely even culture these from the er anymore, just assume they are all mrsa and treat accordingly. culture if a diabetic or foresee possibe need for the surgeon to do the i and d. if patient is extremely ill admit, iv antibiotics and blood cultures. all this said diagnosis over the phone is horseshi*. you have to see it to treat it. these range from small to life threatening.

Tony, you have to convince this friend to get to an ER and get an IV! I just got an email from my buddy that just went through this and he said his was basically a big boil, hurt like hell, red, swelling, hardness near the center. They treated him aggressively with antibiotics via IV for 3 days. And sent him home with antibiotic pills.

incision and drainage is treatment of choice for abscesses or "boils". actually literature says cure rate is same for i&d with and i&d without antibiotics. but we all still start antibiotics (a little cya medicine never hurts) anything less than i&d is malpractice, unless its just a nasty cellulitis then antibiotics are all that is required

Been on the phone with my bud, he says he is loosing fluid left an right,

and promises if he is not better in the morning 100% he will call for intravenous.

but I ask for everyone to give support to this guy, let him know how we feel.

Please:eek:

He is one of our administrators.............:(

Well, if I have to I'll go down there and deliver him to the doc's myself. I'll be sure to give him a shout in the AM and see how he's doing.
