Curious about how you supercharger guys insured your vehicles. Question arose because my friend is putting a kenne bell on his mustang and was wondering how to cover it. Does the premium go up or does he not tell them and take a risk. Just wondering what you guys thought on this.:dontknow:

I called my insurance company (USAA) and asked them about it. They said as long as I have my mods documented and I have pics of everything, it'll be covered.

You could always just remove it if there was an accident.

mine they said if i get major work just stop buy and they will take some fast pictures to add to my account so its covered. as far as reason if you are in a head on accident and your motor gets hit you can get back at least partial the value of the upgrades + value of vehicle :)

exactly the reason. Might not be able to take it off.

yeah plus like stinkers new hood or any other aesthetic upgrades are covered also :)

got mine insured with grundy, got to up it once we are done with the motor and turbos

you need something called "custom equipment coverage"'i have it on my escort car because of the lights and computers. it can be any value.

Just a supercharger I wouldn't worry about it. If something happens turn in the work receipts and they'll give at least a portion of it back. That or some insurance companies allow you to add up to a certain value of aftermarket without a rate increase. Once you get to a certain dollar amount... ie my twin turbo build, you can change to a declared value policy. The cost of that varies and you may need an insurance company that specializes in such things.

did it cost you more? i have usaa and took them a while to realize that my truck isn't just a normal truck but i didn't tell them i had a supercharger on it.

Nope, no change in cost. I actually asked if they could raise my rates or something to make sure I'm covered... told them I have over $50k in aftermarket stuff on the truck. They said I was good to go:five:
