It looks like the Mobil 1 0w-40 didn't do to well... but had the highest peak horsepower out of the oils they tested.

I will still use m1 0w40 until something better comes along and is readily available at a local store. I use lucas synthetic oil stabilizer too.

I always used it in the 8 and Derek used it in the truck and I plan on continuing unless someone has a good reason not to

Lucas.... yikes, be careful, that stuff will fry a Viper engine because it foams up and causes main bearings to fail. Do a search on this site about Lucas.

its a good read but as far as hp figures its kinda common sense that some will make more than others

ZXc i am sure you know the details on that, everyone knows that a 0w-30 will make more power on a dyno than a 20w50 oil, plus if you look the RP didnt give a sae because it was probably there race wieght which makes a ton of power

I used bothe mobil and castrol synthetic and now I use royal purple (after reading what others wrote I put it to the test) no dyno or anything but mine is a daily driver till winter, and RP better temps, I feel a differance in power over the other 2 and I sent out for viscosity break down and after 3k none no break down yet will send another sample at 6k, the other two broke down at 3k but could have gone another 3k till a change, looks like rp will be up to 6k mile change challenge. I go 6k with filter change at 3. I know it's a costly oil but so are our engines. :burnout: :burnout:

Notes: Before drawing any conclusions, three "most powerful" oils, namely the Royal Purple, Castrol SLX, and Mobil 0W-40 are all ZERO-Based viscosities, meaning naturally less friction. Next in line are the 5W+ oils of Hi-Tech, Castrol R, Mobil 1 5W-50 and BP Visco 5000 followed by the only grade of oils actually recommended by the manufacturer, Shell Torco, and AMSOIL


Torco and AMOSIL supplied the "recommended" oil for our testing, but added if it were an outright horsepower shootout, they too would have supplied a zero weight oil.




The results would have been different had all the co's sent the Correct viscosity. AMSOIL is hands down the Rolls-Royce of lubrication products, Mobil is very good.

It is a copy of a independent test which carries more credibility than the normal manufacturer sponsored tests.
