Alright computer tech dudes I got a question. I have burned to my computor from my cd collection (not downloads) lots of cds which I play on my Sony mp3 player. I just bought an ipod and it does not recognize the sony (atrac ?) format. Is it possible to convert all these cds on my computor into a format that will download to my ipod?

TIA

patrick

Yes, there is a way....First, did your directly download CD's to the sony ? If you used and alternate software vendor then you should have .wav, .mp3, etc files of each song before it was conveted to .atac. If not....there are programs, freeware and licensed format conversion programs out there to take care of this. Its going to be a PIA...you wont be able to just hit a button ;) You will be working with 3 applications, Sony, middleware converter and Apple. Each of which were not made to interact with the other :D

i found this for you patrick

$14.95, by the time you convert each song - it would probably be quicker just to rip them straight to itunes - that way all the details for the id tags are all the same in apple format.

It would be easier to open iTunes, insert each cd, and let iTunes rip them into the mp4 format that it likes. Time consuming PITA, but free.

Thanks for your help guys. While it seems like it can be done, in the end I am better off just starting over one cd at a time. I have read a lot of posts on other sites by fellow sony purchasers whom are in the same boat................not a lot of love for sony out there!! LOL
