Just a quick post of the obvious....

When working on a truck that is up on a jack....don't get lazy and forget the jack stands....

Mine came off the jack last night....the tire was already back on but if the truck came down 10 seconds sooner the jack stand I was using on that side would have saved the day....

Good advice Mike, but I would like to take it one step further.

When working with the truck jacked up, lower the vehicle onto the jack stands so they are supporting the majority of the weight.

From what I read of Mike's situation the jack rolled over to the side. If the vehicle is moving in a sideway direction chances are the jack stands will not stop it and will also just roll to the side the vehicle is moving.

good point...now let me take it one step further....Don't let E-benz help when working on your truck....:D

The only rookie move was you running through the staging lights and then having to get pushed back all right in front of your girl.....next time bring an L if you are going to drive like that.....:D

Speaking of jack stands....

I am needing to buy some. And apparently the have different weight limits. What would you all recommend, and i guess what jack as well. Thanks ya'll.

Good advice - I use mine every time. I have gotten lazy tho and not always lowered the jack onto the stands so they support the weight.

Time to get back to the basics! Good post!

Let the flaming begin!!!! LOL

Heh Ferrari, dont sweat the 14.4 time............my first time at the track was a 14.3 then a 14. flat. Tire pressure and getting a good launch, shifting at 5500 will get your times down a full second. You will only get better dude!!! These QC guys just have to set their drink down and mash the gas!!!! LOL Us RC guys have way more going on!!

I got a nice 2 ton floor jack right off ebay.....

Had a friend die because he climbed under a car without jack stands. No one found him for hours. Terrible way to die especially since it would have only taken a few minutes to put the stands in place.

:( That's really sad Big A. And you're right, a few seconds of getting out the jack stands would have definately saved him. But what I want to ask is this...
:dontknow: How many of you guys carry a set of jack stands or a floor jack around in your trucks for roadside emergencies? I definately don't but it wouldn't be a bad idea  for those who have tonneau covers to strap a set down in their beds. I definately will. That's a serious and important consideration. Just think, for everyone reading this and takes heed to this post, the life it would save could be your own.

When I was young I had a truck fall when I was under it. Luckily it was a jacked up 4X4 and all it did was scare the shit out of me. It's been jack stands for me ever since.

Really sorry to hear about your friend BA. All you can do is hope that telling that story will save someone else in the future.

i use jackstands and always throw whichever tire i took off under the frame too.

Jacks are for lifting, jack stands are for holding. A single wheel change; jack alone = okay. But anything more than that, my truck and my ribs are worth more than the time & effort.

I always set it on the stands, pull the jack completely out and give it a good strong shake before I ever consider creeping under there.:stupido3: I've heard too many horror stories like the ones here to want to handle it any differently.:ahhhhh:
