Whats up guys, im thinking of joining the military (Marines or Airforce). What do you guys think? Im 24, married, and looking for a good future and possibly get out and away from this town. :dontknow: :dontknow:

Damn Cody, now you have to change your choice of alcoholic drinks!!:D J/K bro. You have a good head on your shoulders and a good woman by your side. I think you'd be an asset to our country.

Always like to see good young Marines join the cause. It can be a tough life though, especially on a family. The AF is a lot more like a regular job, just depends on what you're looking for.

Give it some deep, serious thought...any branch of the miltary is an honorable profession and the top service to the country....but it aint for everyone........the military found that out when the draft was in place....

Stop on by Robins AFB, I will show you around. We have Air Force, Army and Air National Guard members in our unit.

I'm thinkin of joining the reserves myself. Most of you guys that have met me probably wont recongnize me. Well maybe, I still got the long hair but I have dropped 45 pounds in the last 9 weeks with the intent to join soon. So Cody man, I say go for it!!!

Talk to each Recruiter on separate days and don't sign shit. Wait until you have talked to ALL 5 of them, and then make up your mind. (On a side note: I tend to be kinda partial to the Navy...;))

Send me a PM if you want some info....:D (I might be able to direct you to someone closer to ya.) Also, the Marine Corps is not a bad gig either, I would make sure I was going Aviation though!!!;)

Thanks for all the feedback guys! Here in Tifton the only recruiter thats been in his office the past few weeks is Marines, he's a great guy, but i still have alot of research to do before i decide what to join.

The wife is cool with it, we've been talking about it for awhile.

Thats awesome bro, proud of ya, what service you planning on joining?

BTW...if you wanna fly and don't have a college degree....the Air Force and the Navy have the best programs! I just happen to be a Flight Engineer in the Navy and while the platform I fly on is going away, the oncoming platform is going to be very neat for the newer folks. I fly on a prop driven aircraft but the 737 is taking over our duties here shortly....Just throwing that out there. Tons of opportunities if you qualify!:D

One more thing to consider....while I think the Armed Services are a noble endeavor, just remember this.....it is not for everybody. You may think that you are cut out for it now, but, wait until you are standing on this imaginary line and gettin' yelled at about your belt not being properly aligned with your shirt and pants.

Fast forward a few years, now you are working in the service of your choice for someone a few years younger than you. (And possibly an Officer, if you go Enlisted.) Can you truly handle that? Are you willing to literaly scrub "shitters"? Can you accept criticism in any form? Would you blindly risk your life for another? There are hundreds of situations...but, these are some of the ones that probably make people rethink their enlistment obligations.

When their are a million "Pro's" to a consideration, there are always a million more "Con's".......make sure you know that military life is not easy. SERIOUSLY! Been doing this for 11 years and sometimes shit wears on ya....and sometimes it is 110% worth it. In the end, I will be proud of my accomplishments. However, I have seen quite a few good guys decide they couldn't make it....:(

heres some pics jase sent me last night from his job they were playing around with the sights on a 25mm chain gun on a LAV. jase said they drink those khalua drinks for breeakfast....lol

i had a friend well my best friend at teh time join the nat. guard and it drove him crazy.... he was diacharged on physic leave ....

you right it not for everyone - when i was in boot there was some ppl that cry'd to sleep everynight - ppl sayin they dont need this shit,... i even heard one guy askin to go home to see his mommy

remember the military is more then a lifestyle or a job - it a way of life :)

just remember after boot and traning - you might not get the MOS that you want

talk to the recuiters / sign up for MEPS - and take the test's - then see where you stand..... AFTER YOU AND YOUR WIFE SIT DOWN AND HAVE A LONG TALK ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO DO......

jase used to tell me about the mommas boys who tried to cut their wrist with disposible razors...lol he would laugh about it. would also get pissed about the ones they had to stand suicide watch over all night when they could be sleeping. just something you might see in boot camp if you decide to go. remember most of it is mind games. jase said it wasnt funny at the time but when he was done with boot he laughed about some of the shit they did to them.

That is one of my main concerns, not getting the MOS I signed up for. Whats is MEP's?
