Hi Y'all!

We had our tranny serviced at the dealership a couple of months ago and it has slipped out of reverse ever since. They said they used the correct fluid in the 6 speed. I have talked to the mechanic and he said he thought the problem was the cold weather and it should clear up when it warms up. Well, the weather is warm and it hasn't stopped jumping out of reverse. Does anyone have any suggestions?

mine is hard to get into rev.

never heard of this prob. possibile not goin into gear all the way?????

i'm sure someone will chime in with the answer

It sounds like your shifter is misaligned. Losen the bolts that mate the shifterto the tranny. Then wiggle the handle to reseat the shifter ball in the tranny and tigthen. It should fix your problem.

My '04 RC did it periodically. I had to hold it in R sometimes.....quite annoying. The problem never occured after I replaced my shifter to an X-Metal version. Good luck.

You may also want to move it through all of the gears, leaving it in the reverse gear before tightening down the bolts.

Odd that this would happen after a trip for service. Wonder if someone was effin' around with your truck?:dontknow:

very odd if all they did was change the fluid it still should not pop out of gear.

Two possible things in my mind.

1. Maybe they filled the tranny through the shifter? Thats what I did when I put my tranny back into my truck. It was more efficent for me as the console and shifter were removed anyway, but on a assembled truck that doesnt make sense.

2. The plastic pads on the shift fork are broken. I had the same issue, put it into reverse begin to let out the clutch and pops outta gear. This is about the 4th time I have heard this since I have been a member on the forum. If it is the pads the tranny has to come out and be taken apart. The sooner you fix this the less money it costs you as I waited and I wore out the reverse syncro and gear. DO NOT buy the original type plastic pads, replace them with bronze pads from Six Speeds Inc. or D&D Performance.

I tried to find a link for the bronze pads from Six Speeds inc. and I cannot. I would buy them through a different company as Six Speeds doesnt have very good customer service, I know this because I dealt with them.

Now for the rest of the story...

Well, we took it back to the dealer about a month ago, and the tech said he talked to Chrysler tech support about the problem. He said they recommended replacing the fluid with GM Synchromesh. We did that. Well, hubby's headed to work Friday evening and made it two miles down the road and the tranny locked up. He got it freed up and turned around headed back to the house. He called me to bring him my truck, and I eased the SRT-10 back to the house about 15-20 MPH in second gear. Something was definately rattling around in the tranny. Anyway, this AM, I'm having it towed back to the dealer and go from there. I do have extended warranty on the SRT-10 and that should cover it. But if it doesn't, I'm going to hold the dealer responsible because we took it in for the problem several times. What sucks is that they kept changing fluid at my expense and now the tranny is trash!

Best advice I can give is find another dealer before they ruin your truck...If I were you I would rather pay someone else for the dealer's mistakes as to let them touch the truck again.

I fully believe #2 was the problem with our truck. Told the dealer that. They didn't want to tear into it. Now that the transmission is trashed, I'm going to force them to fix it or get me a new trans. The next closest dealer won't touch it. They just flat told me they don't work on SRT-10's!

I'll keep y'all informed...

Thats crap, how hard is it to order and install a new transmission? Doesnt matter what label it has on the side of the vehicle its all the same.

This is by far the most informative and personally benificial post i have recieved on this, my 5th post about this issue. Thanks. Now im dreading spending $2600 to fix a problem caused by a $35 part.

indeed this is a very good thread. I was not aware that this part was causing an issue in our trucks.

mods should sticky this

So i called my local performance tranny shop.

Removing the trans tearing it apart, fixing the part and the ground down reverse gear and reassemble is going to cost me $650 labor plus parts.

i have the same problem...sometimes it sounds like I hit something its that loud! really sucks

Thats more like it, I did it myself in a afternoon. $650 is pretty decent but the $2600 someone posted a little earlier is retarded. Send it to me and Ill do it for $2500, LOL, hell Id do it for nothing.

Mine did the same thing, a super loud bang when it pops out of gear. At first you can hold the shifter in position with some force but eventually the teeth on the syncro wear out and pretty soon you will have no reverse at all. Happened to me and forced me to pull the tranny out.
