Hey guys i'm new to the forum. Just bought a '04 RC black from Ohio and drove it to OKC. It rolled over 3000 miles on the way back to Oklahoma.

Does anyone have any suggestions on oil for the first change? I know its '04 should I use the 10w-30 or 0w-40? Also, I think it needs a catch can as it was a little low when I checked it.

Thanks for the help

Congrats dude. On the oil filler cap it tells you what oil to use Mobil 1 10w30. Use a mopar filter as well, they are under 10 bucks from the dealer. These trucks do burn some oil over time so get in the habit of checking it often.

Did the truck come with any mods?

Welcome to the RBC! As far as oil goes I have an 05 and it calls for 0W-40. And I believe the 04 call for 10W-30. It should say on the filler cap of what you need. But I also run 15W-50 in the summer to help with the valvetrain noise and switch back for winter.

It is not uncommon for these motors to burn oil. I think I read somewhere it is normal to burn a quart every 3000 miles or something along those lines.

One way to check to see if you need a catchcan is take the intake hose off the throttle body and look inside the TB. That is were the oil will collect and let you know how much blow by you have.

Nah its bone stock, I'm the first owner of it!!! Its been a dealer car the whole time.

One b**** about it, i hate the shift to third :(

Congrats on the new toy --welcome to the club....Nice and black is the fastest color ---Just ask anyone..

Yeah I hear ya. You have several options out there for new shifters. Just keep checking the for sale section and you can pick one up cheap. Dont do too many hard launches slipping the clutch. The 04's with the 4.10 gears are hard on the clutch. Eventually you will have to upgrade that clutch but it can last 25k if you drive it smart. Mine lasted 3k!!

Awesome, I saw a kit on JMB for a Centerforce clutch, new lines viper slave cylinder and such, and a Fidanza aluminum flywheel for a little over 1k. I don't know about the slave cylinder, but when I replace the clutch I'm gettin a Centerforce and an aluminum flywheel also.

Welcome and greetings from NY

The upgrade kit is a must for RC owners. The stock plastic hydraulics cannot handle the power these truck put out. JMB's kit comes with a spcer that also gives proper pedal height.

The flywheel is optional and many have said that the stock works just fine. You will need to resurface it or get a new one when changing the clutch.

As far as shifting...... Either x-metal or B&M have upgraded shifters that help with the 2-3 shift.

When you replace the clutch with an aftermarket one the slave is a must. The stock hydraulics can't handle the Centerforce clucth. Or else you will wear out your clutch really quick. As far as flywheel goes....What kind of mods do you think you might be doing. If you plan on FI than the Fidenza might be the best option for you. Our trucks being heavy the light flywheel affects low speed driveablility (parking lots and stuff). DC performance has one that is lighter than stock but heavier than the Fidenza. It looks like to me there is nothing wrong with the stock flywheel.

Maui set up works very well for him because he has the 4.88 gears for the Fidenza.

Ahh thanks for the input guys. Should I take my truck to a dealer to see if all the TSB's and recalls have been performed?

I most definitely will buy the kit than, is $999 a good deal for a centerforce clutch, all lines, and the viper slave cylinder?

WELCOME! CONGRATS! on an awesome truck...i buy my mopar filters at wal-mart,along with the mobil-1;)
some probs. with 04s':
1.check your lower pulley bolt (crankshaft) for tightness,if its loose remove and put some thread lock on it.
2. make sure you clutch hydraulic lines are up away from the exhaust (i wrapped mine in a heat shield sleeve thingy and secured it with a self tapping screw

my clutch and trans. work just fine,i'm thinkin' these guys just don't know how to drive!:burnout: :dontknow: :D LOL
