Anybody know anything about Kart racing (ie...where to look into it, where to do it, etc)? I looked at World Karting Association but I'm looking for a regional association. It'll be alot cheaper and more practical to do kart racing than buying another car to just do track days with.

As far as being CHEAPER... well, it depends on what you want race. Some of the shifter carts can be upwards of $10-$15k. You could build a decent SCCA race car and have a lot of fun with it for that kinda money. :)

I raced karts professionally for close to 8 years in Indiana. Did some karting out in cali as well later on. What do you want to know specifically and I will try to help you out as much as possible.

The best kart racing I have done to date is outlaw karts, 500 cc opens, look them up on youtube and visit the QRC website. If they have that in your area, you will have a ball with it!

I do kart racing too, but in the Netherlands. It's not the same as in America, but it's good fun to do. Wen you go 80km/h and drifting with one hand, that's good fun. But the tracks in America are mutch bigger compare where I'm racing on. The tracks where I race is 600m, but it is the smallest in the Netherlands. The most are around 1km-1500m. But if you want to go karting, just do it. It's great to drive these things. oh, and buy then a shifter, that's the BOMM!!! I'm driving a 125cc automatic, because I'm only 15 years old. But I want to drive a shifter, becuase that's so fast. Just do it!!

500cc in a shifter that's insane. I have seen the rotex guys with what I think are 125 shifters and that's even insanely fast.

I would think though for 10-15K you could buy a decent formula ford or a nice vintage vee and be a lot more safe.

You dont shift on the 500 open, you just put it in 4th gear and get pushed off. they have full cages too. you can get a race ready setup for about 5k-8k. that mutha will pull wheelies very easy on the dirt! and yes they do effin fly! i think on the quarter mile oval they were clocking us doin about 90-94 going into the turn sideways!!!!!!!!!

I thought you were running a 500cc on a asphalt track not dirt!!!! That's insane, but I can see with the cage and wings how it would be possible.

You would never catch me in one of those, a shifter is plenty fast.
