Killer Asteroid

Jupiter actually keeps most of the "big" ones away from us.... The gravitational pull of that planet and our (relatively) close proximity to the Sun keep us safe.

........ Now if there is a asteroid that breaks through... say the size of Rhode Island... well, we're toast (literally). But, they will see it coming YEARS before it gets here.

Can it not also alter the trajectory of a rogue asteroid such that it puts it on a path toward us instead?

There are many people studying this "stuff".... Not just at JPL but Universities too.
