Hey guys. I got a laptop from my parents as a graduation present. So..I am thinking...I dont know what it is called or how to explain it. Is there a possibility to use my laptop to connect to the truck to tune it up or anything like that. What the hell...any one of you saw the fast and furious movie??? You see Brian use a laptop with his eclipse car...? Now that is what I am trying to say. Lol.

sorry but .....no....

your $12,000 motor is something to be left to the professionals.....

Yeah it's possible IF you had AEM or another aftermarket engine management system (Basically, an aftermarket ECM in place of the Factory one).

AND, you knew how to tune it. :D

IMO, keep using your laptop for car/truck forums, solitare, and of course, porn.;)

I've called my tuner and gave him my a/f readings and ask what parameters to change through the laptop and VEC to optimize the a/f readings. This was right after I brought my truck home which is at a higher altitude then where I got it tuned.

If you are not familiar with the VEC (like me) its wise that you not touch any of the paramaters without guidance from someone who does and knows these motors. One wrong adjustment and good bye motor.

Why try to F with something as specialized as that?
I mean I can make my laptop do carwheels and play pron at the same time but would I hook it up to my truck as tune it?
F no
With my tuning skills it would play UH UH YEAH MORE every time I started it.
Damn it does that already

If you really want to learn, your easiest and cheapest way is to get a VEC 2 or 3 installed.

If you want to go all out, AEM sells a standalone that according to their forums was wired to use all stock harnesses in a GEN III Viper. It actually was designed for a GEN II(Direct swap with the stock PCM using stock wiring). This thing does everything and some more.

As mentioned before....Pay someone for some guidance first. This engine can easily go boom if not tuned properly....

As stated above... it is possible....but if you don't know what your doing...boom.
These pics are with a VEC system... but I don't change parameters with it.

Thhis will allow you to log parameters, and send them to say ROE Racing, and they can suggest, alter, and or improve your tune...moreover so if you make a significant change with your motor... like throwing a blower on it....ect.

Hope it helps...but again as stated...the tune is the make or break point with these motors...and you better know what the hell your doing.

I was wondering about this too bro. I know I shouldnot do the tuning but what can I use to get the readings into my laptop? I want to gather the data and send em to Sean as this things shifts too hard into second and a few of the fuel points need to be smoothed out. I know we need some kinda software program and a cable but what?

All you need is the software. I have both the VEC2 CD and VEC3. Then you just need a serial port to plug directly into the VEC. Second and third pictures above show the plug. Then you just run the program.

VEC III (not updated VEC II) uses a USB mini plug right on the face of the VEC.

Thanks for the information. I really learned a lot of new information today. I better start learning more about the VEC III. One thing that I know about the VEC III is that it is required for the roe supercharger. Right? I am still trying to decide which paxton or roe supercharger that I want. If I decide to go with the roe supercharger then I can use all these that you told me about VEC III, cd and the plug. If I decide to get the paxton supercharger then I can't do anything because I don't want to risk myself to blow up the engine. Again, thanks to you all!

Did Roe send those to you with your VEC's? or s/c? or did you buy em seperate?

The Paxton comes with Split Second tuner stuff but isnt as robust and a VEC. I added a VEC3 and gained another 35 or 40 rwhp just from tuning, nothing else. Joe Donovan did wonders for my truck by nothing other then tuning it.

I started with a baseline off the truck of 629 rwhp 640 rwtq. After adding the VEC3 and Joes tuning ability my numbers went to 672 rwhp 640 rwtq. After adding the water/meth I reached 702 rwhp 667 rwtq peak.

Sean Roe helped a lot with explaining how to run the VEC3 in conjunction with the Split Second system and the DC Performance pcm.

I had the VEC2 software that came with the VEC2. When I got my VEC2 upgraded to a VEC3 it came with another CD for the VEC3. I think it actually has the VEC2 software on it also. As well as drivers and such.
