Lazerlite Tonneau Question

My cover shipped and Is in a city an hour south of me. The carrier cant have it to me until monday so I have decided to drive down and pick it up. Can I install this by myself in the parking lot of this place or should I not try. The issue with trying to get this home in the back of my truck is obvious. Yes I could wait but I really want to do this over the weekend.

Chris- It's pretty damn easy to install. It helps to have an extra set of hands. The cover is fairly light, but it's size makes it a bit akward to handle.

You'll need to take your wing off and do that install at home.

Also- take a batt-powered shop light. For the front hinges, you'll be working on your back up by the cab. With the cover on, it gets dark up by that end of the bed. :)

Thanks Kevan, My main concern was lifting it. I didnt want to tear anything up. The wing has been off for the last few weeks as it was part of the deal I made with the wife for now. I didnt bring any tools with me today so Ill need to make a trip to the house to get some, what do I need?

No need to go through all that, Ill take the travel box with socket sets and a set of open/box ends. I shouldnt need anything other than that?
 
The instructions on the Lazerlite site (link) say 7/16" (0..4375"), but the 11mm (0.4331") has less play.

-FRONT HINGES: 11mm
-REAR PLATES: 11mm
-LATCH: 11mm and 1/8" Allen/hex wrench to adjust latching rods.
-WING: 10mm

Take both a combination wrench and a socket and driver. A short extension for the socket might be a good idea too.
Don't forget the shop light. :)

You'll need the extra set of hands for about 20 seconds when you lift the cover onto it's hinges. That's the toughest part of the install. Here's the Removal video from their site:

Just play it backwards and that's how the install works. :)

(I need to talk to Scott about the smooth jazz in that video. Two burly guys taking off a tonneau cover to Kenny G just doesn't work. LOL)
 
good thing you posted that, I just realized that I may need to remove my factory bed liner to install. Maybe I should take the trailer down with me and trailer it back. I am hesitant to drive home with the cover strapped in the back of the truck. It seems that even at an angle it would be awkward since is is the same size as the bed. I'm determined to do this over the weekend but not at the cost of the cover.

If it's only an hour drive, I'd get 4-6 motorcycle straps, take the wing off, and haul it home (in the shipping box) in the bed of the truck.

Sure- you can't blow away LS-1 vehicles for that 2 hours, but.....it's worth it to show them that you CAN haul! :)
 
You should already take of the wing (God I can't believe I just said the:D ), and drive up with out it. The bed cover is tricky if its the one the goes underneath the bed rails you should be ok, but if you could take it off then even better. It should take you about 30-45 minutes to install the cover. Remember to take a piece big enough to make a template of the wing to mount the wing later. Make you take the right tools.

My wife and I put it on in 25 minutes at the shipping place Bro! Its very doable...minus the bed liner.:)

I picked up the cover today and made it home in one piece. The box had a few holes in it on the underside of the cover. I inspected it before picking it up as Scott said and had the guy note the ticket. The cover was packed very well and the only issue I see so far is that the paint has some chaffing on it. The cover was on a plastic packing sheet with foam under that to prevent dents. I had questioned myself about this after I bought the cover. I thought it would come with that clear plastic adhesive film to prevent this. Scott and company did a great job packing and labeling this side up. I looks as if the cover was allowed to ride in the truck at an angle on the wrong side. I made sure I loaded it with the painted side up to prevent this but it was apparently to late. Im unsure how bad the scuffing is and will have to check it tomorrow in the daylight. I guess I can always let the paint cure and buff it out?

If the scuffs are only in the clear, then yes, it can be buffed.
