It might take me some time... but I have at home Autodesk Maya 8.5, which is the same software the studios use for visual effects such as this.. and it has plug-ins for fire and other effects... maybe I can try something out.. just would need a really hi-res image of a truck, with very little background so that I can apply to the green screen, and then replace the background with something really cool.

In addition to fire, I can do smoke, hair, fur, timewarp, etc..

Scott.

Small world. My company created that image . In fact, I am working with that same crew on a film called John Hancock as I write this. The guys who created the fire fx for the film are Vincent Serritella and Stephen Marshall.

I would love to tell you that we could whip up an image. However, both those guys are working their asses off right now. I don't think I could convince them to come in on a Sunday to work on it. :dontknow:

I guess that leaves it up to me to mess around here with Maya.... I doubt I can do as good of job.. but I will give it my best go...

I can say I own it.. its a legit install that I paid for, and got while I was college under a educational discount.

I only got it to have fun with and learn with and not make money from..

I want to get Pixar Renderman.. but I think its out of my budget.

These should work.. =) I will start working on it this week..

Do you create computer graphics for a living? What school did you attend?

I believe that fire on the Ghost Rider bike was rendered with prman out of Houdini. We also have a proprietary renderer we use to create some pretty good atmospheric fxs like fire, smoke, dust.

Prman is expensive but remains the industry standard. I have used it on every show I have worked on for the past 11 years.

No, I don't do CG for a living, its just been a interest of mine since I was like 14 years old...

My college that I got my masters of science was University of Dallas, which was a specialization in information security.

I like Maya because I can run it at home.. and dont have to have a render farm to make it just run... :D and the price was right!! ($389.00)... I will probably end up using some freeware MEL scripts or some sort of fluid effect to to the job... when I purchased maya 8.5 they also gave me BackBurner, Combustion, and Cleaner XL as part of the package.. I might also be able to find something in my proDAD collection as well...

I do it just for fun now... I was going to go full fledged into college for it when I was younger... was going to goto Sheridan College, but my grants fell through... at the time I was talking to render houses such as PDI (Pacific Data Images), which I think is now owned by Dreamworks... but not sure.. they were providing the guidance to me, and even at the time offered me a intern... but since the grants for college fell through the whole thing crumbled...

Yes. Dreamworks does own PDI now. I work for Sony Imageworks. These are the projects I have worked on.

Don't know him. We are kind of in our own little world when it comes to IT infrastructure and support.
