In order for a line lock to be street legal, the brake lights need to come on when the line lock is activated. 99% of people don't bother because they only use their truck at the track. However, I like to remain within the bounds of the law. I have just enough crappy luck to have a cop pull me over and check that my line lock was wired up 100% legit.

The directions supplied by Hurst are okay.....if you own a pre-computer era vehicle. Their wiring for the brake lights is incredibly basic. Wiring for the truck is a little more complicated, so I did a ton of research and drew out a diagram.

The diode on the plunger switch line is required to prevent the line lock from activating every time you turn on the brake lights by hitting the brakes. :D As amusing as that would be to watch from a distance, it would suck at 50 mph.

Hopefully that answered your questions. Let me know if you have others.

The LED switches were sent to me by a friend in the UK. The company doesn't ship to the US, so I had to call in a favor.

The switch covers came from MPJA.com:

They are basic phenolic covers. If you want the kickass ones you'll have to go someplace like a military plane graveyard (where I got my first ever covers...heh heh).

The nice thing about the MPJA covers is that they come in a ton of colors (red, green, yellow, purple, blue) *and* clear and chrome! The only one missing is white. :)

Yeah....but down there you can yell "ROLL TIDE, ROLL!" and receive a round of drinks.
Do that up here and people will say, "Laundry detergent is in aisle 12".
:D

BTW- It's "were". I don't do DIY articles for this site anymore.

for anyone wanting these instructions (since the above links magically don't work,:( ), just login to the "c" & search "line lock" & "kevan" to find them.....
