This is not an SRT-10 question....forgive me.....

I have a bike mechanic who is very conservative....

Told him I was considering a NOS set-up and wanted his opinion regarding my overall engine life if I installed a small shot... just enough to get to about 225 hp....

He didn't like the idea at all... Sez that any use of any NOS at all would ruin my engine in a short period of time..... Even within as few as five runs..... I'd never heard of anything so overly cautious in my life....

Who wants to call bullshit and please give me a reason why....

Any and all info would be appreciated.....

This would be on a Kawi ZZR1200......

Thanks,

D

I guess it would depend on how your air/fuel mixture is.

I would think that too much heat could do damage fairly quickly, but as long as your mixture is consertive I don't think you will have any problems.

Bill.

Man....I wish I got that many runs before it all went south.....:D

Nos on the bike...wow....you know it is illegal on the street right...?

Really.............? I had no idea...... Do they actually check for that, Mike?

yep....if you get caught on the street you are F'ed.....

Guess I'll just have to flash 'em the trusty gold sheild then...... :D :burnout:

Thanks for tellin' me, bro.......

Yeah, driving on the street even in a truck, the bottle is suppose to be unhooked (not attached). Another reason I keep it in the bed of the truck locked.

The one thing about NOS on an engine is that it's not gradual like the boost building up be it by a SC or Turbo. NOS is more like God kicked you in the ass and that sudden increase in HP also results in a sudden load on the internal parts of the engine.

I'm not up to speed on your engine, so I have a question. Are the rod and main bearing roller or babbit? Babbit bearings can take more of a sudden load than rollers as the babbit have more surface area to distribute the load over.

Not sure if that helped or not Tim, but that's my 2 cents on the subject.

John, I called my guy just now and he says it's a babbit bearing....

I also asked him to confirm his prognostication on engine longevity when adding juice... He spoke in rather general terms but he still seemed adamant that NOS was murder on nearly all internal parts .... And that adding even a small amount was asking for trouble.

over 100 passes with the paxton and a 100shot on my SRT and still going strong after 40,000 miles says BS:D

On bikes its much different because they have such high revving engines and it puts a much bigger load on the small pistons.

There are lots of guys that do it with not much of an issue but they also had custom tunes done to ensure decent AF ratios.

Personally your taking an unneeded risk with an already quick machine.

IMO after owning 3 rice bikes if you want to make it faster do it mechanically.
A good header
Good tune
Better gearing

This put my R1 from a stock 145 rwh to about 170 ish. Not bad for a liter bike.

And if you want to spend the $ then do internals, Cam and head work.

the only thing i can ad is,,,,,,when i run nitrous for only two 1/4 mile runs,,,,the oil is very black,,,even fresh oil will turn black after just two runs.

i believe if the motor is maintain propoerly and timing adjusted properly,,,,,and most importantly,,,,if the bone head driver knows when to lift off the throttle when something isnt right,,,,the motor will last nearly as long as it normaly would.

spray the bugger:rock:

Welcome back, Daniel.........

Thanks alot for the input, guys.....

Another thing to consider is that different engines react differently to the same mods.

Look at the success of the STS on the GM F-Bodies and Corvettes. Eric (Ram from Hell) loves it on his Z06, but it killed his SRT/10, like a few others.

It's possible that your tuner for the bike knows something about NOS being tried on other bikes like yours and they did not take well to it.

But then on the other hand, he may be a little crazy like Nowwhats guy is about headers.;) :D

500+ Passes on me hemi, Blew the first motor(toner ring) after 20 or so passes. After the rebuild the motor was fine (75 - 175 2stage), but the tranny never held for more that a couple of passes... A small shot of Nx with the right tune, and a driver that knows how to use it will not hurt an engine, now the stuff behind the engine is toast....

BTW: I put a Single stage dual bottle on my mom's honda rune and it SCREEMS!!!
