When I first noticed this truck I should have known to leave him alone.
It is a very good looking early 70's stepside with fuel cell and Huge electric fuel pump showing under the rear roll pan. Well I apparently missed the fact that he was running Drag Slicks and what sounded like a big roller cam engine.
Well I had to start behind him because of the road we were on, but we started together at about a 10mph roll, I hit the rev limiter in every gear because I was watching him instead of my Tach. We ran thru third gear and then had to let off because of traffic and he pulled me no more than 1 car length but he was definately pulling away from me even in third gear. We stopped and talked afterward, his little rocket has small block with good heads
roller cam, nitrous (which he said he did not use). Turns out his truck runs 7.60's in the 1/8 without the nitrous and 6.90's with it so I really don't feel so bad about getting my ass handed to me with this one. Damn, Damn, Damn.

Yeah, but I'll bet he doesn't have a/c, killer stereo, cruise...

Always look on the bright side, plus you know it's only a matter a minutes until he grenades.

Where did you get your killer stereo from?

Getting beat by a built race vehicle is ok.............now if it was an import!!! That would really suck!!

patrick

I've been beaten by a built Mitsubishi Evo-8 . . . from a dig.

Jack, cheer up. You probably get better gas mileage, more looks and stay cooler having AC. What color was the truck? I haven't seen it.

I'm making an assumption that if the other truck even has a radio, that it is not 500 watts, 6 CD, maybe nav... You know how the Cheby boys are, more interested in monitoring when the next time is they need to replace main bearings instead of changing CD's.

Oh yeah guys, my truck is dead stock, the only mod being a K&N drop in.

Don't feel bad Jack. '68-'72 Chevys and GMC shortbeds with small blocks weigh less than 4000 lbs. I have one (which I built when I lived in Chattanooga). It's chopped and tubbed. It was Orange at the time with primer spots where I shaved the door handles and chopped the top. You may have seen it.:dontknow:

Mine's an unfinished POS (for about 13 years now), but it's really fun to drive. I posted pics of it here about a month ago. I'll see if I can find the thread.

BTW - you may want to buy one as soon as you can and just keep it until you're ready, because they definitely aren't getting cheaper!
