Damn Walt! Sorry to hear about your back bro!

My chiropractor used to give me this stuff called BioFreeze. Works awesome for pulled mucles and stuff! I suggest trying to get some of that and see if it helps.

I have used this stuff and I agree it works good....I may need to get some more.....This back pain sucks.

Biofreeze works great. The guy who invented it is my uncles friend in Fla.

Sounds muscular to me from something like that. I just go over a minor back injury myself. Go to chiropractor for muscle stim, get some painkillers, and stretch alot!!!! Then use the biofreeze and heat. first 24-36hrs ice to get inflamation down, then heat to help mobility. Not a chiro myself, but I just went through a similar thing. Its gonna take time no matter what, but this should help. I was down for 3 weeks.

With all the Jiu Jitsu...I am actually a fan of Chiropractors...but like anything else you need the right one....I prefer chiro's that are ex-athletes as they tend to get it...

You also know...when going it feels worse for the 1st day after seeing him then it gets better....

if the pain radiates down one leg....skip the Chiro as you may have jacked up your Sciatic nerve.....

until then.....hot tube.....icey/hot....and if you can get some....a muscle relaxant or anti-inflamatory like Celebrex.....

Good luck big guy...

Damn, sorry to hear that Walt :(

Here's what I do (Bad back for the past 20 years)

800mg Ibuprofen every 6 hours for the first 4-5 days.

Ice it every couple of hours for the first 72hrs and then move to an ice then heat combo.

Don't lay around...got to keep moving at least every hour.

Stretching.....

1st day

Lay on your back and bring your right leg to your chest. Hold it there for a 5 count and pull to stretch with your hands (dont bounce). Alternate with left leg 10 repetitions.

Keep your calves and hams loose and stretched out all day.

Second day add:

Hip Flexor Stretch - Lie on your back, holding your right knee to the chest. Slowly lower bent leg down, across your body, keeping knee bent, until a stretch is felt across top of the hip/thigh. Hold 20 seconds. Relax. Repeat 5 times on each side.

There are quite a few more exercises you can do but recommend you consulting someone in PT to tune it for your condition.

Chiropractors cant really help much in the initial stage...The muscle(s) are in spasm and will pull the back out of alignment. There are other treatment(s) that Chiropractors may prescribe/perform during the initial stage such as electro pulse treatment and massage.

On extreme cases, you may need a back wrap/brace to get you through the day but you shouldn't wear it unless you absolutely need it.

On those days, a frozen bag of peas work good to drop in between your back and the wrap.

Once you start feeling better, keep up the exercises and strengthen your core muscles (abs especially) to help prevent reoccurrence.

Thanks guys...I have a call into the doc office for some muscle relaxers and anti-inflammatory...also doing the heat and cool hoping this will help.

Walt, are you having spasms? I get those from time to time, and there is nothing worse. The only thing that helps are relaxers and time spent doing nothing.

I have no pain down my leg....it is just SHARP pain in the lower back....and I could feel the muscles wad up when it happened.....Going to the Doc at 11:10AM...I hope he can give me some relief.....no real spasms...just sharp pain if I move the wrong way.

Try to get a muscle relaxer, I have a degenerated disk and am in pain everyday. Sounds like you tweaked it bad, get better soon. and stretch it out too!

Suggestion, read up on DSMO, go buy it, mix it 75% distilled water and 25% DMSO, crush up a relaxer or simple asprin, spary it on your lower back three times a day until it stops hurting.

Be very prepared for bad breath for a few days though, trust me it works, but be very careful with it. You can buy it at most feed stores, it's sold as a horse linament. Ask a doctor about it, they will tell you it works great, but they cannot tell you to use it. Most Ortho doctors will tell you in confidence to go get a bottle and use it.

You might get a craving for hay though.....JK

Walt dude all these guys have give you great advice, but mine will work:rock:

Get in ya drawers, get a fifth of Jack Daniels , southern comfort, grey goose, whichever your pleasure, a large shot glass and a bucket of ice, a recliner and tv, preferably with remote.

Tune the The Satallite to your favorite porn channel, fix you a few large glass's of ya favorite drink till ya feel rrrreeeaaallllllllllllllllyyyyyy looose:rock:

Have a good time with yourslef watching the ladies:D drink the rest of the fifth in a strong gulp:D put the bucket of ice on ya privates tilll they freeze:p and take a long nap
the next morn you want even remember your back hurts bro:rock:
Ya testicals will be too blue:D

If you really want to get better go to a Physical Therapist. It amazes me that so many people think of Chiropractors before Physical Therapists. I have been to both and a Physical Therapist will do wonders compared to a Chiropractor. IMO, many Chiropractors are quacks. I race Motocross so I am injured a lot and Physical Therapy has always done the trick. It isn't an overnight fix. It will take some time. Most important - you will need to do the excercises they prescribe on your own every day. Good luck. Back pain sucks!

2 flexiril,3 naproxsen and 1percocet 10/325 always seems to work for me,sounds like u just have a pulled muscle fortunately, basically rest and muscle relaxers will get u better in a few days maybe ice it as well,if ur gonna stretch its better to have someone there pushing ur leg towards ur chest slowly, goodluck!

start working out. I used to have a ton of back pain, and ever since I've started working out it's 100% gone. I can even deadlift over 300 lbs now!

my back used to get tweaked up just tying my shoes sometimes. :-(

hope you get better!

Uhhhh then you have to have a few drinks with that and you will be floating around the room. Your back pain as well as any mental pain throughout your life will be gone as well. :D

Guys I just got back from the Doc's Office.....it was all I could do to drive there and sit in the waiting room....but he gave me three prescriptions and they are 1. 750mg Nubumetone for anti-inflammatory 2. 5mg Cyclobenzapr for muscle spasms 3. 5-500 M Hydrocodone and Acetaminophen for pain...........I took all three when I got home so I hope to have some relief soon....he also prescribed some physical therapy which starts tomorrow

Tom, I will call you later thanks for the PM.

I checked out the DSMO...pretty cool stuff showed it to my doc and he agrees with you guys it is a good product.

Stinker, you are my hero....if not for the wife I might try yours.

Wow. A subject I know more about than most of the threads. I have been a practicing chiropractor for 25 years and I serve the American Chiropractic Association and the American Medical Association on advisory and research committees. Great that you go checked out by your primary care doc, but in most cases the meds are not going to resolve an underlying condition that you may have.

The acute pain you describe, that is exacerbated by movement, sounds most consistant with a mechanical/articular (joint) involvement. For acute onset of low back pain manipulation and direct physical medicine procedures has the greatest efficacy. There are good and bad folks in all diciplines and if your problem is not getting any better pm me your location and I will do my best to find you someone good to evaluate your problem.

After obtaining relief from the physical injury therapeutic exercise is most helpful in preventing recurrance.

The bad news is that you are experiencing some pretty bad pain. The good news is that will usually improve and resolve in the vast majority of cases. Effective treatment will usually help this resolve in a much shorter time frame and lessen the odds of recurrance.

I will PM you my contact information. If you have any questions or concerns I would be happy to help you in any manner I can.

Best regards Walt,

Craig
