so I am changing the fluid out on the truck with mobil 1 ATF synthetic. there is no other addatives needed, right?

thanks

thanks. the tranny only took 3.75 quarts before it was overflowing.

I test drove the truck after the oil change. I would say the oil change impoved shifting by 50 percent overall.

the best improvement was the actual last 20% of the throw into each gear that was where I noticed the most improvement/ease into each shift. I would say that the resistance to that last 20% of the throw has been reduced by 50-75%. it's still there but not near as as apparent.

overall, I would definately recommend a tranny fluid change to improve the shifting if you don't have the funds to replace the master/slave cylinders, and it's something any shadetree mech can do in a hour.

My tranny says use castrol syntorq only. We are talking about a 6 speed manual right?
I know that tremec says use atf...but dodge says use synthetic gear oil. I wonder if there is a difference in the seals or shims in the tranny?

Heres lots of T56 fluid talk, look at post 15. I just rebuilt my T56 yesterday due to 2 problems. 1 shifter was super stiff, especially in neutral, and 2 lost reverse gear. I when I pulled the tranny apart I found lots of very fine metal particles coating everything (Normal wear). What happened was the shift rail bushings were worn and trying to remove the rail from the transmission case took 2 people. Hence the stiff shifter, this probably could have been prevented if the first owner would have maintained the tranny. The reverse issue was not fluid related. The plastic slippers on the reverse fork broke off and caused too much play between the fork and the syncro, eventually causing a wore out syncro and reverse gear. The fix for this was brass slippers for all the shift forks. Anyway, it is important to maintain these transmissions, I bought the Amsoil synthetic, and only because it is the only oil on the list that my local Crappy (Canadian) Tire had in stock.
