Hello all I am new to the red button club (bought my 05 QC in Nov 07) and I am in need of some info on regular maintainance. I went to have my 30k done and my Dodge dealer wants $800 to do the service. I am a big do it yourself kind of person and am wondering if anyone knows of any info on doing the regular maintainance on a SRT-10? I cant seem to find any manuals (like chilton's or haynes). I am looking to replace the regular fluids and such. I obviously know how to do the oil and rotate tires but what about the transaxle fluid and spark plugs? Plugs should be straight forward (or are they?) I am aware that I cannot do the transmission adjustments myself. Basically I wanted some fellow owner's input/knowledge on whether I should do regular maintainance myself or just donate the cash to my local Dodge dealer?

The service is transmission band adjustments, transmission filter replaced, trans fluid replaced, differential fluid replaced, oil change, throttle body cleaned, and plugs changed. He told me that it was this expensive because of the fluids.

Sounds like alot of $$$ for that type of service. I would get a second quote at another dealer or a Viper shop.

I do all my own maintenance as well. Recommended service interval for the rear diff is every 15K. I do mine every 10K...easy to remember. Many on here will state you need to remove the diff cover to do it correctly. I simply pull the drain plug and let it drain. (Be sure the diff has been warmed up...driving). Then pull the fill plug and fill. I double the recommended anti slip additive (4oz to 8oz). Biggest warning is making sure you get the correct oil from your local dealer....its been a 50/50 shot with me and my local dealer. SRT10 is completely different than standard Ram diff oils. I can post part # if you wish.

Spark plugs...again recommended every 30K. If you try and do it traditionally from the top its a pain in the ass. Instead, get the front wheels in the air, remove wheels, remove inner fender well ((super easy) and remove heat shields on exhaust manifolds.....easy to change plugs at that point. I've stuck with stock type plugs for replacement. Just installed my second set last weekend.

Your dealer has the service manual on DVD and available for sale. I know there are places you can download at no cost but I'm of the belief its theft.

Anyways, welcome to the forum.

tranny adjustment is simple, rear diff fluid change takes like 10 minutes dont even need jackstands. plug chage is fun. ive got the cd manual but its at the house. like chuck said wheels and fenderwells need to be off makes it quicker(a lot less profanity)

Save hundreds ---do it yourself.....The plugs were not that bad to do from the top---just protect the fender paint----oil can be bought at walmart for less than 6 bucks a quart and the mopar filter for around 5 bucks----The trans fluid and band adjustments are easy just make sure you buy enough fluid ---I believe it was 12 quarts..use mopar fluid again I get mine from walmart...you will need a inch pound toque wrench for the band adjustment...Rear differential is quick and easy ---go for it --you will save dollars compared to the quote you recieved from that dealer.

Thank you very much vtcoa family you have been very helpful in saving me lots of money all while learning how to take care of this awesome truck a little more. I would love the part number of the stock fluids Chuck B and I would also like a price quote for the transmission service and differential service items I will need "Stinker". Thanks again all for your help.

I just checked on Chrysler's web site, all but the induction service is reccomended by Chrysler, the price does seem a little high, but when you are at the dealership the parts much more expensive than Wal-Mart. Do it yourself and you will save alot, just be sure to save reciepts if you have any warrenty left.....I work as a DC service department here in Fort Worth, and I have saw "do it yourselfers" not save reciepts and DC not pay for some repairs..Just so you know the rear differential and transmission show to be serviced every 15k on these trucks according to DC. Hope some of this was helpfull

This can give you kinda an idea, i wil also put a price together for ya on the filter for the tranny, the fluid, and the rear axle fluid if ya need bo, basically you can get alot of the prices off the site, the royal purlple fluid, an rear axle fluid, I think a case (12qts) of the tranny, and I would get 4 qts of rear axle fluid since you really should take down the cover , and I can get a filter for the tranny too, the gasket is reusable, if you are interested in the deepr pan, i can get one for the rear axle also,
need any help sir, jsut pop me a pm, or holla:D
will help ya anyway a kin
