OK i cant seem to find the Mobil 1 GL-4 75-85w tranny fluid anywhere. I take it that it is synthetic???

SO

What is everyone else using?

I really dont want to reuse the oil coming out of the tranny again.

Thanks SHU

Royal Purple will do the trick.

OK is ATF different then the Manual gear oil?

I thought i would be since they are in different bottle sizes.

Ill look for the royal purple as ive been thinking of going to it for the next engine oil change too.

Royal Purple is a good choice...I use their oil in my engine...the gear oil is thicker and makes the trans harder to shift..especially when cold........I dont know why Chysler insists on the gear oil...the trans mfg says not to use anything but syn ATF..:dontknow: ...............BTW..your trans warranty (if you have any left) will be voided with the ATF use...they even stamp that on the trans pan..

Gee thanks for the help.

Now you really put a hex on what to do.

I guess ill let this play our for a bit. I may not be getting to the tranny tomorrow anyway. I have the brake calipers to deal with tomorrow first.

I use Redline D4, for over 30,000 miles and no issues at all with my six speed. And I do full power shifts @ 6,000 RPM. I recommend it.

But if the tranny were to blow couldnt you just drain the ATF and refill with gear oil before hitting the dealership up for warranty?? LOL:D :p

Not really, I'm sure inless you do a total clean down. they find 1 drop they will red flag you.

Trans that fail under warranty are generally returned to Chrysler for inspection. I would bet they test for traces of other trans fluids.;)

My point I was trying to make. I never heard of using atf in a manual? I know manual fluid is like gear oil weight.

I know it sounds odd but Tremec, the tran MFG, recommends Dexron ATF. They did recommend Mobile 1 at one time.

6-3. LUBRICANT SPECIFICATIONS
Lube Capacity (Approximately)…………………………………….……………….4.1 Quarts (or 130 oz.)
After refill, fluid level must be checked as outlined under Checking Lubricant Lever in Section 1-1-4.
Recommended Lube…………………………………………………….Dexron
Ã’-III,IIE

Link to a repair manual by Tremec.

Mobil 1 ATF in my manual since the start. When you take the oem lubricant out it will fall out in gobs...it is like a thick gravy...the shifting was a whole different story when I went to the ATF as Tremec says to do.

But Royal Purple in the engine and rear end.

But I am experimenting with Amsoil in the sedan...all three locations.

dodge added sychromesh oil for warranty issues, its thicker and last alittle longer

but as most have said Tremec suggest a ATF fluid

most use mobil 1 atf synthetic
you can also use
amsoil
redline
royal purple

You will get a little bit quiter operation, plus smoother shifting from the tranny especially during start up and colder weather.
Just make sure the ATF is a synthetic blend

OK another question.

Im seeing that some of the oil company's are saying that the gear oil
75w-90w GL-4 have a viscosity comparible to engine oil 5w-40w.

Also that the GL-4 rating differentiates the tranny to use gear oil and not ATF.

Amsoil specifies this their recommended tranny list.
Dodge SRT 10 trucks and Vipers specifilcally sidenoted to use
Manual Transmission Gear Lube 75w-90 GL-4
NOT - ATF
Amsoil goes on to recommend MTG for Muscle cars w high horsepower/torque.

THEN

Both Royal Purple & Red Line specify to use gear oil and not ATF if GL-4 is advised.

SO

What makes the GL-4 so important?
Different than GL-5?

Reading all thesetechnical properties is giving me a headache.
viscosity index
flash points
pour points

Thanks for those of you that have gone through this already.

75W90 is nothing even close to 5W40. You are looking into this waaaaay to far. Go get some synthetic ATF and call it a day.

Just tell Tony to send you all of the Royal Purple that you will need for the next three years for your engine, tranny, and rear end. He will love you and you will be in fat city for all your needs.
