75W90 is nothing even close to 5W40. You are looking into this waaaaay to far. Go get some synthetic ATF and call it a day.

Thats what i thought.

Redline states verbatem
75w-90 GL-4 gear oil(similar to SAE 5w40/10w/40 engine oil viscosity)

Maybe the GL-4 is different than standard Gear Lube????

Heading over to Pep Boys now to see n feel the difference.

Touchy Feely mmmmmmm

Its just that im taking it apart next week. I dont want to have to save and reuse the oil.

I have no idea what i put in last time as i drove down to SD to have Patrick help swap out the clutch and fluid.

Just trying to get as informed as possible.

Not like i have anything else to do.

Its easiest just to remove the tranny and yes fluid will come out of the tail housing. I covered my brother last weekend when we pulled mine out, should have drained it and prevented a mess. I posted on your other thread on removing the tranny if you needed any advise.

Yeah i got it and printed it out. LOL

I have to take a looksee but i take it theres a drain plug back there on the tailstock???

Hmmm I dont remember exactly where it is, I think on the bottom of the main case and if i remember right it is a hex style plug. Let it drain for as long as you can let it to try and get all the old gear oil out.

Do not use Royal Purple gear lube it will wreck your sycro's. I know. I went back to factory fluid and have no problems. With the RP it took less than 3,000 miles before I could not down shift into 2nd or 3rd gear. I've used RP in my kids dragsters and in other cars and think its great but do not use what there web site says to use. I did call RP when the tranny shop told me what was wrong and they told me as long as dodge say's gear lube thats what they will sell. They did send me a case of oil for my problems.

Strange, I have had Royal Purple in the trans for 9 or 10k...changed once...no problems at all...

I was wrong last night I'm running Royal Purple Synchomesh in my tranny. The shop that rebuilt and upgraded it said thats all they use. The shop is a factory repair shop.

OK great. I may look and see if there is a difference between the two.

Pennzoil is the copy of the original Texaco brand that was made specifically for GM and Chrysler.

So maybe Royal Purple has a proprietary blend even better???
