so i do have the shale on my property.

what i cannot find is how to tell if your location would be profitable.
what i have noticed is oily film. i have been working slowly over the past few
years to drain the property of any standing water. with the new sump system
in place the oily film really shows up. is there anything i can do to test for gas?
or o i just have to wait until they get around to testing my area for gas?

first you need to see if they dont own the mining rights to the property on your map. Yes they can own the ground under your property and there is nothing you can really do. If they didn;t then quite possible. I didnt understand mining rights until I bought land in wisconsin. I know in that state I can by the mining rights(if noone else has to someone elses property. Kinda Fugged up if you ask me. But check your state laws.

yeah, oddly enough when i bought it, i sat down for about 6 hours, went back to the 1800's on my deed. the only right on my land is to put one telephone pole with access. there is also a buried underground cable that i have no idea what it does, but i did dig it up by accident. looks like it had been there 40 years or so, and seems to not be in use as i broke it, lol.
