Anybody see this show? It's worth seeing if you haven't. Sure does make you wonder how much money it takes for the President to make that DC-NY trip, though. We could save a whole lot of money if they just stayed home more hehe.

It's pretty amazing, and must be one hell of a gig to get. If I'm not mistaken I'm pretty sure I remember that Smoke did some VIP flying.

If you are talking about the Nat Geo special on AirForce 1 and Marine 1 yep...I watched it for the 2nd time this evening...very interesting......and at the last I found out our new president may not be so bad...he ordered steak instead of watermelon....Finally I agree with him..;)

Watched them both last night Bob...Certainly worth watching...

I watched both too....great coverage.....the $$$$ it takes to get the Pres around is unreal.

Yeah these shows are very interesting. I recorded them both on DVR because I thought I wouldn't catch them, but I watched during the recordings anyway. The show reinforced my feeling that his job is one I would NOT want. The secret 2003 trip for getting President Bush into and out of Iraq for Thanksgiving dinner with the US Troops was extremely amazing. That was a thoughtful thing for him to do. But like was mentioned already, massive amounts of dough is spent in getting a US president around safely. I don't particularly disagree with his safe travels. I just wonder if some of that money spent in feeding staff such expensive food while flying in AF1 is necessary. I mean, they can have single serving food in a soap dish too. It won't hurt them.

I've actually been on AF1. When Clinton flew into RDU for some ceremony I was able to shake his hand and then take tour of AF1. Sat in the pilots seat and then in Clinton's chair at his desk. This was pre 911. I don't think they allow visitors anymore. This was possible due to a thorough background check and we had connections with one of the stewards on AF1. Got to keep some Presidential matchbooks and M&M's.

Were they peanut M&M's? That bag of candy probably cost like $25.00
No, I don't like peanut M&M's. They were the plain variety. Yeah, I'm sure they cost a little more then you pay in the store. I figure I'd get back some of my tax money somehow. They were in a box about the size of a deck of cards with a presidents picture on it.

On that flight to NC they served NC barbecue during the flight. This means someone flew or drove to NC to pick up the BBQ and took it back to where the AF1 food prep is done. Then it was put on the plane and eaten while it was being flown back to NC. Extravagant? I think so. Waste of taxpayers money? I think so. But it's just a grain of sand on the beach in comparison to the way our Government goes through $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

There were some things that I noticed that I was surprised they would talk about or show. Seemed to be a couple of security related things that probably would have been better left unsaid or unshown. I won't list them off right here, just because this is a public forum, but if I was planning an attack, let's just say I'd have a starting point.

And what was with the AF security carrying a rifle slung over his back? Might as well leave it in the armory.

And money?? That quick trip to NYC was probably 7 figures, at least. Just to go talk to the UN? Nobody ever heard of video conferencing? I realize there are times it's important for a president to be someplace in person, but the guy couldn't give a shit about the UN, why not just send a tape?

While on AF1 I talked to the flight engineer. He told me about some of the things that were mentioned on the show. I asked if AF1 had any offensive capabilities. He just smiled and said " I could tell ya......but then I'd have to kill ya". I said "That's OK, I don't really need to know that bad".
