It was another good year for MATR (Mopars at the Rock). Met up with Big Dave (SilverSRT10), a couple of DTW members and headed down to the local Shoneys in Rockingham around 7:30-8:00am. After a quick breakfast we convoy'ed to the track with several other DTW (Dodge Truck World) members. It was an impressive site of 30 or so trucks rolling out of town and into the dragway ;)

There was just about everything Mopar running today.....UGR was there with their yellow Viper, believe it ran a 9.17 but missed a couple of the other passes. Pro Comps, diesel trucks in the high 8's and low 9's. Of course plenty of nostalgia Mopar muscle :D

I recently put the grind on my calipers and brought the slicks for the first trips down the 1/4.

Well, discovered a new problem. If I go over 4k RPMs with it in gear and the clutch engaged, the truck will start rolling forward. Figure there must be some clutch drag and need to look into adjusting it. Soooo, launching was a chore.

My best slip today was:

1.81 60'
8.29 1/8 at 88.68
12.85 1/4 at 109mph

:(

Truck was down on HP today as I was trapping 3-4 mph slower than normal. Also had to granny shift a little since the tranny is going out.

Anyway, will be sending the tranny out to Texas for a rebuild upgrade in the next week or so. Will use the opportunity to install the NoS kit and line lock as well.

DJ showed up in his QC just as Dave and I was leaving. I stuck around and watched his 13.6 run but it was in full heat soak hot off the freeway.

Fastest truck out of our group was a 95 Cummins 4x4 11.5 at 118 MPH :D Truck looks totally stock (just dont open the hood ;) )

Anyway, had fun even with the mechanical issues and look forward to next year.

A few pics and a couple of other stories to follow..

That 60' is awesome. How did the gen IV feel? Any misses? My first trip to the track will be may 6 at a Mopar/Dodge only event.

Sooo, Dave spies this Black 04 RC pulling a AMC on a trailer  :D

We went ove rand met him and his son. Say the truck pulls the trailer like a dream and never had any issues over the past couple of years. It also turns out that he helped design out OEM shifters :dontknow: I hooked him up with the VTCOA info and hopefully he will chime in.

Here is one of the local Viper Tech's cars...Runs mid 9's all day long but was working on slowing it down for the 10.8 class all day.

Thanks, was shooting for 1.7's

I put the Gen II back in as the Gen IV was amplifying the synchro issues with the tranny.

Had to granny shift to keep the runs clean. Plan to go back to the Gen IV after the tranny comes back.

Great post MMMM...thanks. I liked Daves AMX as i have been looking to buy one for over 6 months.

Good job Charles. Both with the run and the pictures. There was a fella there that seemed to be very knowledgeable on the Viper Trucks. Said he worked at the factory where they were made. Also heard through the grapevine that the RC's are actually rated at a 6500 lb. towing capacity but the factory wouldn't publicize it. Use that info at your own discretion.

I asked him about '05 production numbers and he said that they were made right along with the regular rams and that the info is buried in the vin number. It would take a lot of detective work to sift out the Viper Trucks from the the rest and breakdown the number of colors, RC vs. QC etc.. He did know that the Silver RC had the lowest production numbers. Even lower numbers than the Yellow Fever trucks.:dontknow: Maybe someday that might mean my truck could become valuable.

That's not my AMX. It was another Viper Truck owner we met at the track.

HELLO FELLOW AMX LOVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MY DAD AND I HAD THE NICEST AMX IN AMERICA IN THE EARLY 80'S. IT WAS A BITTER SWEET ORANGE 69 WITH WHITE RACING STIPES. SHE WAS A SHOW CAR, AND A PURE STOCK DRAG CAR ON THE WEEKENDS (14 SEC QUARTER). THAT IS A SWEET 70 MODEL YOU GOT THERE, WISH WE HAD A 401 BUT THE 390 WAS ALL AMC OFFERED IN 68. OUR CAR WAS CALLED THE AMERICAN DREAM ON THE CIRCUIT, WENT UP AGAINST CORVETTES OR AS WE CALLED THEM TUPPERWARE TWO SEATERS. HE EVEN WON 1ST A COUPLE OF TIMES, AND I WAS HARD TO BEAT THE VETTES BACK THEN.

SORRY FOR MY RAMBLING BUT THAT IS MY FAVORITE CAR OF ALL TIME AND I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL I OWN ONE. WE ALSO HAD A 69 BIGBAD ORANGE, 4SP CAR. BEAUTIFULL CAR! I CAN'T BELIEVE WHAT THEY GO FOR THESE DAYS!

OPPPS NEVER MIND IT'S NOT YOUR CAR:)

Guys,
I hate I missed this one, but I had a serious melt down of a shifter cable that put the truck back on stands.. It's fixed now--thanks to Stinker. Next time!

Charles, was heat hurting your HP today? It did get a little warm.

Dammit!!!! Me and Juliana wish we could have made it.

Thats ok, catcha next time ;)

Heat probably hurt me a little, didnt check the DA but was probably around 1700. I think I may have had a bad tank of gas, it hadnt been running good for the past day or two.

Also lost .2 to .3 on the shifts due to the tranny.

No worries, after you move down, there will be plenty of other GTG's . Although you would have enjoyed the weather yesterday compared to the figid day at Pinks :D

Amen to that. What a difference a week makes. Needed to wear four layers of clothing for Pinks and got wind burn. Yesterday was t-shirt weather and I got sun burn.

Here's another pic of the RC and the AMX.
