for some of you who don't know: i am a supply boat captain and work in the gulf of mexico servicing the drilling rigs and platforms,i just got word that
the company i work for is locking up the boats that aren't working (thats most of them) and sending us home.the "word" is we are NOT getting layed off:dontknow: :argh: i don't get payed when i'm home:dontknow: i guess i still have insurance (benefits).the company says they are going to re-group and put the extra personnel on the few vessels they have crewed and hope things pickup soon. don't really know why its so slow here in the gulf (there are so many theories,who really knows),but there is no new exploration or drilling going on (so much for domestic oil and gas production!)nothings changed we will still be dependent on foreign oil and gas for the foreseeable future! THIS SUCKS!:argh:

Brazil just started 15 new drilling projects. The North Sea is also spitting out lots of hydrocarbons so the Norwegians and Scots are buzzing. As for Angola, we're busy as hell maintaining tools here. I can't understand why things are slowing down in the Gulf unless.. The new Obama administration is applying the brakes on drilling.

yeah no one hears about the 1300 drilling rigs that are stacked out in the lower 48 thats close to 40000 jobs not including the service companys that have no work i got hit hard and am barely makin it now too............. bullshit!!!!!!

candy fleet,seacor marine, trico marine, cal dive, edsion shwest(spelling),kirby, always hiring when i went to the docks to fix the boats the captains where always ranting about the money they made. most are out of La but last time i was working on them it was all down in brownsville, corpus area. you would need to have 100 ton captain lic. to apply for most.

i work for trico (or did).from what i hear all the boat companies are hurting,i was in fourchon, la. today to pickup my car (we are stacked in amelia) and even the dive boats were stacked 3 deep (cal-dive). i have a 1600 ton all oceans (masters licensce) what kind of work do you do? you could be my ears out there! LOL

i use to be the guy that came out at all odd ours when a detroit, cummins, or cat took a crap and didnt run right. I have been on every trico boat which one where you on? i worked for msi previously united diesel i no longer work in the marine indusrty but if you want a can call a few port engineers and see whats up?

if you need temp work you might want to try ryan marine. they are assholes and treat people like shit but money is money and somethings better than nothing.

I have heard a few things on this. Obama is going to tax the hell out of them for there record earnings last year. So with prices so low and Obama making it really difficult to get drilling permits, the oil company's are packing up shop telling him to piss off. I saw one oil company leave one drilling field because the govt was being too much of a pain in the ass. As soon as they used up all there state leases, they left town.
