McGaughy's Drop Kit...

Should KRAZY get the McGaughys Drop kit or save up and wait for a DC or XMetal kit?

I know that I have seen one or two guys sporting this particular drop kit and I was wondering if anybody else has it?

I know most of you have either DC's or Boomers....so please spare me the usual propaganda unless you have a valid comparison.

Right now, I just want to drop the truck but I want to make sure that the kit is worth it. If not, I'll just wait. I found it on Ebay for like 320 bucks...but you know how buying something cheap can end up being cheap!:(

Please give me some useful feedback on this.

OK,I'll spare you the propaganda !!!My first drop kit was McGauheys.It went on one weekend,and came off the next !!It rode on the bumpstops,and was not what I wanted.The Price was right (more than half of what the XMetal was !!),but the ride wasn't !!!Then I got the XMetal kit and I love it !!Comparison,while in the middle of doing the install,I took and matched the spring to old kit.In comparison,I'd have to say that Xmetals was an inch in dia as apposed to the McG's 3/4 (Don't know that that is the exact dia's,but in comparrison to each other)!!I will say that the McG kit rode like a dream on the 1500 it went on !!!So my thinking is,I can't get a definative answer on whether the QC's are on a 1500 chassis,or a 2500 chassis !!(And from actual comparison,Id have to go with the 2500 theory !!)One factor about the XMetal kit,the rear end is stiff because of overturning the small leaf spring !So far,I have loaded 600lbs in the back of my truck without it sagging a bit,which is a possitive,and why Boomer designed it that way,for towing purposes !!Hope this helps !!
 
Based on what I read, see highlighted section below, I would go with Boomers kit for a 2004/2005 truck.

If this kit revised the spindle location, I would say go with it, but it does not.

up for auction is a dodge ram or srt 10 2/4.5 lowering kit. this is an economy kit. it consits of coils in the front and flip kit and lift shackle in the rear. shock ext are included so there is no need to change any of your factory shocks. if you are looking for a deluxe kit which uses spindles instead of coils in the front check my ebay store. if you have a srt 10 you can not use the spindles because they are different.
 
Damn....I was kinda hoping it would be worthwhile. Gotta love the price tag though!:D

Guess I'll just keep cruising 4x4 style till I can afford a decent kit...:(

I did have some minor vibration issues (at take-off) with my X-Metal kit, and tried to experiment with some shims. However, several weeks ago I removed all shims and the hogs head pinion angle is right at 0 degrees. I have no issues. The wife even commented on how much smoother the ride is riding.
 
its a pos i got one going in the trash, i was thinking about letting bone try it out on his if he wanted to but it takes all the ride and handling out of the truck, looks is all its good for.
 
after not saying much for awhile on this , basically the only difference is The x-metal kit instructs you to cut off the bump stops on the front.

the McGauhys kit does not due to fed regulations.

other than that, really, there is no differences in kits, you can talk blocks, springs, relocators, flip kits, and spring rates, but its all pretty simple,

with a rc you install a shorter spring, in the back put in some blocks

one more word of advice, i dont know of anyone other than manufacturers that can build shocks from ground up.

take it for what its worth.

between the two kits Krazyyou get blocks and u bolst for the rear,,, how different could they be''?

with the front you get a coil spring, well springs come in rates depending on weight on front end, only differencs is quality of manufacturing.

jsut cut off the bump stops with either kit and get the short stops and ou'll be fine.

I have heard of many problems with the x springs starting to collapse after a year or so tho

Are you saying the X-Metal springs? Something to keep an eye on I guess.

I cut my stock springs and have no problems with them at all, but have talked with a handful of people that had problems with the 06 kits and the 04-05's after a year or so the spring started colapsing and loosing tension.


but who knows whats true or not?:dontknow: :D

i encourage everyone to use their own judgment, I'm just forwarding opinoins, and we know what they are all about.:p :D
 
Whats up stinker brotha man! Hey I found Advance auto has spring clamps to bolt a few coils together, effectivly lowering the front, and they also have blocks. Total cost of lowering my truck would be under $50. I Want to bring the front and rear down with almost no space in fender. Where could I get shorter bump stops for the front end like you say? And how would they mount? I'm guessing they would have to be very strong.

welllll lets see now, you can get the bumps stops at pep boys, or usually any 4wd shop, but the stockers you have to grind off with a 4 inch grinder so it has more flexability.

a two inch block gets ya real close, but be careful of the u bolts, most of those off the shelf kits have cheap u bolts, and thats the part that skeers me with 500hp:D

but honestly those spring clamps are a serious pain!, you are better off , removing the spring and cutting some off the top,, 1/2 to 3/4 round will get you around level with most kits.

1 solid round will slam ya, and you will need alignment afterwards and to elongate the upper control arm mounts.

plus the spring clamps will make it ride like it has absolutly no suspension at all

I'm working on a rear lowering leveling kit , but with holidays it may be tuesday beforee I get a total price.
 
I dont condone this by the way:D

but yes mine has one complete round cut off, BUT I SERIOUSLY SERIOUSLY suggest goin 1/2 round first, then a 1/4 round after that, because it will settle after a 100 miles or so

mine at 1 round WILL bottom on a seroius dip or bump at 70+mph.

I would suggest max out at 3/4 round and drive it round for 100 miles or so and see how far it settles.

oh and with the 1 round out , it also took a 3 inch block in the back, and the stock shocks start bottoming out:D

take into accordance when doin this, it is not reversable:D

if youcut your springs it will drop an extra 1/ inch over time.

so seriously go only 3/4 round at the most.

if you go three inch block in the back there will be hardly no suspension travel in the rear .

you will need to cut the rear bumpstop down to give more travel.

the front stock bumpstop will need to be removed,and not with a hacksaw:D

also the sway bars at some time or another will need to be either cut and welded or buy the sway bar links from justin.

and alignment will need to be done

also the springs are hardend you will probably wear you ass out with a hacksaw:D
