What do you recomend to cut the front springs, anything from Dome Hepot?

LOLO ok you can buy a cheap 4 or 5 inch grinder and then buy a metal cutting blade to fit to it.

use gloves and glasses please! stuff goes everyhwere:D

but usually you can pick up a cheap grinder at home depot or tractor supply or norther hydraulics for around $25 or so

Spring clamps and cutting coils??? C'mon guys these are $50,000 trucks here...

you are exactly correct but the rear is pretty simple, jsut a block kit and u bolts and there ya go.

as far as cutting coils, yeah its a different way of doing things, I've done em for years this way, as long as you dont go more than a full coil you retain the stock ride.

Heating them used to be and inexpensive way but took the tension from the springs.

and yes thecorrect way is to replacethe spring, but mine has been cut since day one, rides great, been from ohio, to florida to indiana an no probs.

some dont have an extra $700 or mor laying around for a drop kit

maybe I should or shouldnt have posted how I did mine, but I am a very big tight ass when it comes to money.:D

In my previous days I did nothing but majorly suspension for GM, from vettes to camaros to trucks, and to me suspensioncomes pretty simple, its all geometry.

and to me spending $ to modify a suspension that isnt going to see a road course but mainly the street is well not my cup of tea.

Our vendors must make money an do urge most to but the kit from them, its simpler, quicker, and alot less hassle.

but when you take into consideration of lowering an RC or QC, it comes easy.

the rc jsut uses blocks and u bolts, to adjust ride hieght. the siz block determimes the amount, and a billet block is the best way to go, most cast blocks will overtime crack or completly break in to. So I have always suggeted steel or billet blocks.

on the front you havethe coil springs, if you cut no more than one coil it doesnt adversly affect the handling or copacity of load.
th correct way is to pruchase a new spring, and most spring manufactures you call will ask mainly front end weight, and choose from there.

After this is acheived you must take into consideration the shocks and the rest of the suspension and ho low you want to drop.

going 3 inches or more on the rear will need to have the frame c notched, easy process, jsut timely.

the front is a different story, after so far you loose travel, and a new lower control must be fabbed up.

but even with 2 inch drop , the front bumpstops need to be removed from the stock location and new thinner bumpstops drilled and mounted to the lower control arm.

the rear bumpstop needs to be either cut down or removed and replaced.

the sway bars either need to be cut and rewelded to the correct angle or a kit from Justin purchased.

The shocks are a different story. up to 2 inches the stock ones work well. but you can also take you measurments and call bilstein and give them the measurements and weight of the truck and they can get you the correct shock.
or buy the Qa1'a from Justin is preffered.

also with the lowering of the trucks a bumpsteer kit is really needed to correct the angle of the tie rods.

While my process is backyard redneck style, my truck is lowered, its safe, rides great, handles wonderful, dont wear tires, was relativley easy to do, and best of all cost me only a little time and a block kit for the rear.

but a person needs to be decent with a wrench and a welder, and a tad bit of comon sense.

But again buying a premade kit, with all the parts and instructions from a well based suspension company is preffered, they have allready done the homework for ya.

So is McGaughy's one of these companies?:dontknow:

I was never into cars/trucks before and the only mechanical knowledge is what I either learned or picked up from the Navy! If you want me to work on a Turbo Prop or fix an SH-60's Electonic System I can do it.....ask me to change the oil and I'm browsing through the DIY section here on the forum!

I dont really see a difference between the different kits other than more people have one or the other. I'm just worried that it will not be able to handle drag racing and what not once they open up the track here.

But if all suspension kits are basically the same, the concern becomes minimal right?:dontknow:

Thanks for all of your inputs everybody!

Heres the website....http://www.mcgaughys.com/07truck.html

Krazy PM fstjack and get his opinion.

to me there both way to high:D i know what goes in a lowering kit, and I can get my own monroe shocks or QA1's,

and people talk about the quality of one kit over another? there is no difference, all billet blocks are basically the same, the only difference is going to be the front spring, and the instruction sheet.

but hey If I made $500,000 a year, I would buy an expensive kit too:D

get what is included in both and comparethem bro, see what is exactly included in both kits.

My sentiments exactly! Hell, I'm strugglin just to get the McGaughys kit. It would take me 6 months to get Boomers! I just wanted to know if they were pretty much in the same ballpark.:dontknow:

Thanks Tony!;) (I think alot of people forget that I'm an Enlisted guy in the Navy.:))

Are you telling me that I don't have a sports truck.... I'm crushed

Hey, I know what you mean. The two things I would like to do the most is the exhaust and a lowering kit (wife has short legs) but it will all have to wait. Order it now from X-Metal. In six months it will be winter and you can install it while its cold outside :D

Thats like saying when Hell Freezes Over Jeff!:( Its never cold here....we just have a long season and a short season....:dontknow:

And I dunno if I wanna pay that much if I can get a somewhat decent drop kit for less...
