Guys,
I was wondering if I can buy pure methanol at the Nats? I can't get any around here. I figure if I can get some at the Gnats I can mix it as needed. I can always bring a big can with me. Any of you old timers that can inform this newb? (actually I figure they'll have about anything you need there).

Thanks guys (can ya tell I'm pumped?),

You can buy it at Autozone. The yellow can of de-icer is methanol. However, it is only in a 12 ounce bottle, but only a buck.

Are you spraying it or running it as a fuel?

I'm sure they have race fuel. I didn't buy any last year. I'll probably need to this year to get into the 14s.

Thanks for the reply Bro, I need the pure stuff to get to the supertune performance for the supercharger (spray), not fuel. I have the good 'ol windshield washer. I need to mix 75/25 pure to water per Joe. If I dont he said I'd detonate like a big dog. Do you know the purity of the deicer you mentioned?

99 percent

Sometimes you can find 100% methanol at Lowes.

There are some online stores that will sell it to, cost more though.

A bottle of windshield wiper fluid at -30F should be around 37-40% meth.

Sweet!

Sweet! Thanks a lot Dave. Can you tell me the name on the label or anything other than the yellow can? I'll be going today and get about a gallon or somesuch. I wonder if they'll sell that much to me? LOL (might think I'm a terrorist or a meth cook or something).
Seems like I spend a lot of time at O'reily's, AutoZone, or Advance.

Thanks A LOT Dave, :)

Any idea what to look for at Lowe's? If I call 'em no doubt I'll get the runaround. Name? Quantity? any description would be handy.

I'm going to check old forum posts to see if I can find any info.

Thanks again Dave,

Perry

How does HEET work? HEET contains special additives and methanol. When HEET is added to the gas tank, it sinks to the bottom and mixes with any water. Since both HEET and water are heavier than gasoline, they go to the bottom of the gas tank. HEET absorbs water and keeps it from freezing, and blocking the flow of gasoline through the gas line and fuel pump. When the vehicle is started, the additives, methanol, water, and gasoline are consumed during combustion inside the engine.

What kind of ratio and/or percent should we be using?
Well Scott, I thought Joe told me 75/35 75 methanol and 35 distilled water. Wanda tells me he said 70/30 (which makes more sense to me as the other is a lot harder to measure). I'm going to call him tomm and make sure before I start mixing. If you can wait I'll post up here. I just got home from buying all WalMart had. When I get back from the nats I'm going to get a few gallons of Methanol and some Acetone and have it sitting around to mix my race fuel. (She's prolly right btw. I can't remember s*** anymore). He did say to use distilled water though in the mix.

Cheers!

Will that still clean your windshields? My windows get dirty quite a bit so I need to make sure my mixture can both clean and help keep the engine cool.
